Spent most of the day going back and forth between working on my Farmall H and helping my brother put together his Farmall M. Now dad wants me to find out why his 1066 won't start, and another brother wants me to fix his AC WD45, it won't start either! I guess that is what happens when word gets around that you can fix old tracors :-) That's alright, I am not complaining :-)

I know what you mean, I have three here now that belong to neighbors. And several more in line that I don't have time to get to. I won't hardly work on nothing but smaller ones. Usually Farmall cultivating tractors, since there are hundreds of them around here. One or two on every farm.

Life must be good because the world has a lot more tractor breakin' nuts than tractor fixin' nuts.

That's is how I started my repair shop after a quit working for a CaseIH/Massey dealership and started my dairy farm wasn't long and somebody was asking me to work on a tractor. Now along with the dairy farrm I've got a 35x90' shop that is always full of farm/industrial equipment that I'm fixin' for somebody, and I've never adverised. Having a shop rate that is half of the dealerships and being able to turn out repairs just as fast helps.

I'm just a tractor nut but dont know too much about them, was wondering if someone could help me out with my tractor, I'm getting buildup on one plug(out of 4) that looks like rust(actual deposits) coated in oil and possibly water.

Kyle,

That rust colored buildup on the plug is an indicator that the cylinder is pumping oil.

pumping oil in reply to Allan In NE, 04-29-2007 04:31:11
At the risk of sounding like a novice,(which I am) what does pumping oil mean? Bad head, Bad valve, Bad tractor?
Thanks, Kyle

It's burning oil on that one cylinder for sure.

Other cylinders have just as much wear as the one showing trouble, so when you decide to fix it, just overhaul the complete engine.

It will get worse with time, but perhaps you can just clean the plugs now and then to get by for awhile.

Re: wet plug in reply to Allan In NE, 04-29-2007 09:48:29
Thanks for the info.there also seems to be some water on the plug. I have an idea that the engine froze over the winter(cracked freeze plug)
is there any way to determine where it is coming from without tearing the engine apart? What usuall cracks first when the engine freezes. Just purchased this tractor and dont know where to start and if it is even worth doing extensive work.Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Kyle
