Hi Gents,

Sorry for the double posts (here and Tool Talk), but I am looking for advice on the quick ....

I am looking for opinions on the value of a a steel building I am going to look at this afternoon. It is the P-model from American SteelSpan - see attached web site.
It is 25 X 35 X13.5 high, don't know about accessories (doors and all). Supposed to be "new in the boxes" he is asking $4500

I submitted a request for a quote from American SteelSpan so I can compare $4500 to a new building - but I doubt they will get back to me today.

Sounds like a good deal to me, but I have never shopped for steel buildings so looking for opinions.

Thanks, Tim

Thanks for the replys guys.

Assuming it was engineered for New England weather, I think the building was actually a very good deal @ $4500, but I did not go for it because it was too ugly for my yard!

Basically, these are galvanized quanset huts with a chine on either side to have more the shape of a standard building.

If I were planning to put it somewhere where you would mostly see the front (which I would probably have stick-built to look more like a regular building), I might have considered it. But where I want may garage/barn you will be looking at the side of the building.

But it was all there in neat stakes and he had all the manuals and paper work. REal nice guy too (cold beer on tap!).

Anyone interested it is on craigslist in Rhode Island under tools or farm & garden.

You might want to also check with the manufacturers on the roof snow lode of this building before you make any offer. Also with your local building inspector on local building codes. It dose sound like a fair deal if you get a complete package.Good Luck!

The main question is do you know if it is all there? All the sheet metal, brackets, bolts, doors, braces, everything needed? Otherwise could end up paying new price or more like saw some pay on a auction near here recently. End wall sheet metal and brackets were gone and other metal had been laying outside in dirt rained on yet they payed new price for it.

You might want to think about insulation also.

The difference between the midwest and where you are can be a lot. We've been figuring a 40X80 and it's going to be about $11,300 minus doors and insulation and concrete.

Sounds to be 50% or less of what I have sen. Alot depends on the main door. Is it a double roll to the side or an overhead door? Either way it's a bargain.
