You could probably make a list of tractor features that were milestones:
Enclosed gearing or unit construction greatly extended life of a tractor
Fordson was so cheap and somewhat reliable
Standard PTO size RPM, splines, etc.
Farmall Regular totally replaced a horse
Rubber tires for a lot of reasons
Electric starting and lighting extended the workday
3 point hitch
Remote hydraulics
Live PTO & hydraulics
Just few of the major improvements along the way,
Paul

Hi Gang;
There are TWO tractors which revolutionised farming.
1 - The Fordson F which gave farmers a cheap & reliable tractor for the first time.
2 - Ferguson Brown and Ford 9N and Ferguson T-20 which introduced the most successfull 3 point hitch hydraulics with depth control which added weight to the tractor through the implement - the basic principal still used today the World over by all makes. Harry Ferguson & his team were genius' who invented the system.
Cheers David

The Hart Parr 17-30 was the first to proove that internal combustion could replace steam,so you'd have to start there. I think the Ford Ferguson 9N was the death of farming with horses.

The first real tractor that worked and was really reliable was the Farmall F-20. They would outlast a couple of owners.
