The tractor I use for discing is a AC Model M crawler. It is starting to use oil like I own a oil well. I would like to get one more season out of it. I use straight 40 wt.What if I switch to 50 wt, would that do any good? Thanks for any info, Stan

Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer, use as suggested works great in tired engines.

One more season? Remember that you may be doing much more damage to the other parts of the engine by using inappropriate lubrication. You may have broken rings or stuck rings. Can"t tell from your post if engine is just plain wore out or if this is a another fault developing. Could be too much oil from a bearing being thrown up the cylinders, could be valve guides falling apart, could be just a blocked crankcase breather. You don"t tell us how your oil pressure is reading - no other info to go on.

So my advice is find the problem before doing more damage - breather is a quick fix and wouldn"t need to risk the engine with too viscous oil. If you feed it thicker oil, you may need to turn the crank, or even replace it, as well as repairing cylinder faults. Your call.
Regards, RAB

The engine being 60 years old and I am sure of many rebuilds, it is just plain wore out. It still has good oil pressure. I have another motor to install, but just don't have time for that now. I just need to get through this season. I have a discing and mowing business, and do mostly do mowing when possible. I use the disc for rocky ground.Stan

A 50W or even a 60W will slow it down a good bit. My 1935 JD-B smokes a lot and I always run a 50W oil in it and have for years. But it still has the same rings in it as it did when my grand father owned it and I'm not going to open it up till I just plan have to which I'm hoping will be never
