Here's a fix for groundhogs/woodchucks/whislepigs or what ever you call them in your part of the country. A couple cup fulls of hydrated lime down any holes you can git to. They come out in the morning in the dewy grass and get wet when they go back in the lime sticks to their feet and belly. It'll start to burn and they'll lick it off, ingesting the lime and killing them usally in their hole. no fuss no muss. I've done this many time over the years and works great. But I still take care of the ones out in the feilds with a 219 zipper, I git a kick outa maken them do back flips.

My wife raises long haird miniature dachshunds
and dang, if one of them didn"t catch and kill the one that was in my wood pile. So I guess the world (at least in my neck of the woods) will never know how much wood a woodchuck could chuck.

We used to stand quietly behind the hole for a couple of minutes and whistle them up. Just whistle through your teeth, not to loud, for about five minutes. They come up to see what's going on.....

Had one right up by the cellar door two years ago. Handiest gun to get to was the .308. Turned him right insideout at close range. :)

had one living in a fenceline when i was a kid, tore h*ll on the beanfield. could never get near it even with the .22 and scope. went up with a gallon of gas and the .410. poured some gas in the hole, waited a little while, well the vapors traveled down the dead furrow and when the match was tossed, boom caught the fenceline on fire. grabbed a handful of weeds to beat the fire out before i got yelled at. well the weeds was poison oak and i wasnt wearin a shirt. made for a miserable spring. never did get that ground hog!!!!!

I still have one under the lake cabin that I just can"t get to the hole. I have leg traps in the crawlspace but he keeps steeling the bait. I"m sure theres a brood brewing down there...

I get wrathy when they excavate under my barn foundation. I can kinda keep watch on it from the house about 80 yds. away. Open a window and ventilate with a .17HMR. Not too loud and surprisingly lethal for a little teeny pill. Better to have them die in the hole. My dog is fond of them when they've had a week to ripen. Then he dines , only to upchuck woodchuck in or near the house. Out in the fields the coyotes take 'em away during the night and glad to have them I'm sure. They are a lot of fun to shoot.

I used to body shoot them with my grandad's Winchester .22 Hornet, now I go for the head and fling 'em over the hill. Body shooting just won't kill one unless you hit 'em in the engine room.

i wish i had you to catch a few... i still have one with a mohawk (really fat old guy) that has been shot with a 410 TWICE and he STILL isn't dead... AND meanwhile, he's digging more holes for his women so he can hump 'em and make more groundhogs.

Ya know, we've got a mean old Tom cat kinda like that running around. We only see him for about 5 months of the year then he's gone. He's been shot more than once and he's one ugly SOB but he still shows up every spring to breed and kill the kittens.

I've taken a few pot shots at him, but he always hides behind a tire-- Don't think dad would be too happy if he had to replace the 40 year old tires on the corn planter because I missed...

My brother has taken a few shots too, but this year he's turned to the grackels. Nice little Benjamin Sheridan .22 pellet gun, accurate as all heck. He's also got Grandpa's old .22, but I think he had one back fire on him in the chamber...
