Hey Ray;
Thanks for the photos of your ploughing, well done its brown side up which is what counts. That sure is some tough looking soil, roller & discs should bring it down into a tilth for sowing. Your plough does need some disc coulters for grass ploughing, and skim coulters will bury the edge to stop trash showing. If you spend some time with a 4.5 inch angle grinder (grinding disc NOT a cutting disc) carefully polishing those bodies to a shine you will get the soil to flow evenly and nicely which will make the plough easier to pull.
The photo shows the disc coulters, set them 1 inch above the plough point & 0.5 inch towards to lleft unploughed land. They should cut through the soil and make it easier for the leading edge of the plough body. But in hard land sometimes the discs will carry the plough !
The skim coulters are the little plough bodies which cut off 1 inch deep & 2 inch wide strip and throw that into the furrow bottom to stop trash being left between the furrows.
Your plough has Digger bodies designed for deep ploughing and at speed, they throw the soil over and the furrows will break up.
This plough has Ley bodies, shallower depth, and the furrow rolls over more gently than a digger body will do. Looking forward to seeing the photos of you breaking down that field, yes it will be a rough ride ! LoL.
Cheers David

Its a STAR plough made in Southern Ireland, they used Ransomes's bodies.
Cheers David

Thanks for the reply David, our ploughing match season is just about to start with the first South Island match in Mid Canterbury on May 19th running to our (lincoln) match on July 21st, it will be cold (for here) by then. I will try and post some pics of the NZ made Reid & Grey and P & D Duncan ploughs that they use over here in the vintage class. Our final will then be in the North Island this year in April 2008 to select ploughmen from the Mobil(open conventional) and Reversable classes for the 2008 world match.

David, those look like YL183 boards, but it don't look like a Ransome frame, what is it?
