Bought a gallon of antifreeze..Fleet Charge...it's sorta pink in color and has an additive package in it. I want to change out the antifreeze in my diesel JD 870 and it now has green stuff for diesel in it. Anyone know about the Fleet Charge? Compatible with green? Quality? Additive package?

This explains the differences in the antifreeze and what can be mixed.

as long as you do a complete flush and refill you should not have any problems ,but I would add a bottle of good rust inhibitator just for insurance and piece of mind .

I agree with Burnetma and Bob. Bob was trying to help you. Why put some off-brand junk in an expensive tractor? Tom

Its not junk, its good antifreeze. I dont want to start another debate, but people really need to get a bit more info before they go posting pros and cons of certain antifreezes. Color means NOTHING without the info to go with it. I can name a couple of antifreezes that Mr Deere marks up that are available at local Autozones, its just a different color, for alot less.So dont cal something junk unless you can back up what youre saying.

If your changing it anyways, it doesnt matter. Just make sure you flush it really well.

I would not use anything but either the JD or Prestone HD in the black bottle. You are begging for trouble mixing.

Why not pick up a gallon at the DEERE dealer?

MAY be a bit higher-priced, but it's cheap insurance against any $$$$ problems with the little tractor's cooling system.

Deere dealer won't be more expensive than $14/gal that I paid at NAPA....except it'd cost me $15 in gas making the 100mile round trip. Now, do you suppose that you would do that?

For one gallon of antifreeze? I'd reassess my need for Deere antifreeze if I were you.

If you put something in there that reacts with the antifreeze that's in there, or causes overheating or cylinder liner damage, YOU'LL reassess what you did, when you find out what part$ co$t for that little engine!

Get a grip Bob, this ain't my first waltz, you ain't telling me anything I don't know. I've rebuilt more engines then you've started. This is antifreeze and I'm smart enough to know the difference between the generic green, the Dex Kool and the effects. This stuff is not not usable, It does mix, all I wanted to know is if anyone had any experience with it. I don't need lessons on how to take of engines.

Don't be a JERK, bo.

If you knew all the answers, why did you bother to ask the rest of us? And, you certainly didn't "clue us in" that you were the EXPERT. As a matter of fact, you came across as a "newbie" to the whole tractor thing.

I gave you sound advice. Funny how guys like you buy a quality tractor, then want to "see what they can get by with" when doing maintenance. (AND then BI*CH about advice that is worth exactly what the paid for it!)

And, I'll bet, if anything ever DOES go wrong with the tractor, you will "dis" DEERE products as the WORST on the market!

As far as the "I've rebuilt more engines than you've started", I can't prove that one way or the other, and neither can you, but I've done a FEW in the past 35 years!

I HOPE tomorrow is a better day for you!

I know tomorrow will be better for me, as I will restrain myself from taking the time to reply to posts by the likes of you!

Hi Bob, Calm down. He/she ain"t worth the hassle.
35 years experience? (would have at least read the label?). Pink stuff, green stuff - not very eloquent. Prolly our fault if anything goes wrong. And, btw, go steady on what you describe as quality - remember there"s good, bad and ugly!
Can"t multi task either, so must be a fella - can only do one job at a time (go and buy a gallon of pink stuff). Wonder how much, in fuel, it would cost him to do a whole week"s shopping, one item at a time?
End of laugh. Have a nice day and remember you can"t help everybody however hard you try!
Regards, RAB

Thanks for the dancing lesson Bob. If you had read the post correctly, you'd seen that I asked about the product and not what goes into a particular tractor. Alas, you didn't and you sought to educate me about tractor values and such in which I had no interest. Trust me, if I bust the tractor, I shan't complain. In the interim, re-read the post so that it may be a tad clearer to you as to what I wanted to know. Oh, newbie, I wish...as for this board, I've been on it for 8 years...I have no reason to tell you this but you want me to believe that you're one of the "old guys" here.

1.) Apparently, I've been here as long as you have. WOW! Bragging rights!

2.) It seems I'm NOT alone in my opinion on the anti-freeze.

3.) Did you find the post about stealing Auntie's underwear more helpful? You didn't BASH that one!

4.) Hopefully, you'll do a better job of guarding your Wheaties in the morning. Someone must have "tinkled" in them today!

The only antifreeze that i know that is comapatable with the old green is the "silver" all vehicle labeled antifreeze such as made by prime. Dexcool and other colored antifreeze will turn green to gel. I believe prestone has an "all vehicle" antifreeze also Your label on the jug should say what it mixes with.
