Hi Guys;
No its not seeded especially for the match, they graze hard with sheep to get the grass down (maybe even mow it). They dont want long grass which could be difficult to bury completely.
The "boats" are to help form the bottom of the furrows and press down the soil for compaction.
The extra weights on the plough are "to hold the 'sod' into the sod" LoL
Allan - this particular field is as flat as your land is'nt it? But we have trees in the hedges on the boundaries to set a sight on to get a straight line LoL
We would call a "headland" the edge of the field where we turn around on.
As someone once said, the USA & England are two great nations seperated by a different language.
I guess some of your words would originate from the imigrants' own languages from around the World who first settled there. Cheers David

I've always called the furrows in your picture the back furrow. The headland is what we turn around on. The last furrow across the field would be called the dead furrow.
