Somebody was asking the value of a manure spreader the other day.

Depends on the size.

They are wanting $3600 for this little IH 2-ton outfit on ebay. I looked at a total and completely worn out DuAl 6-ton the other day and they had a price tag of $3900 on it.

Hi Gang;
In England some areas do insist on "slurry" liquid cow or pig manure is injected into the soil. Most spread liquid & solid manure on top.
The WORST stuff is human manure - that will stink out the whole area !!! They have to pay the tractor drivers a very high rate of pay for that job !
Cheers David

At most of the auctions in NE Kansas the old ground driven units in working order go for $300 and up. PTO driven units in any kind of working condition usually start around $1000.

I have a redone new idea 217 with the end gate. New bearings, spindles, wood , and paint. I got it for nothing, cut the popple trees out of it and had at er. I thought it was now worth $2000, but looks like more now. Maybe I should sell it and buy 3-5 more and do the same thing. Wonder what that ground drive John Deere will be worth when I get done with it. I'll have to post a pic later.

I was reading that above-ground manure-spreading has been made illegal in some farming areas in Europe now - and farmers have to use some sort of manure-injection machine that "injects" the manure below ground. Bet those things have a steep price-tag. In my area of dairy- farming NY, most large farms are using chain-barrel spreaders and gone away from the conveyor units. The old rotted-out conveyor-spreaders often sell to be used as firewood-trailers.

Funny thing is here in Maryland I always wanted one to spread tobacco stalks in the field for about 10 years. Pain in the butt unloading them off a cart & moving the tractor up everytime. The horse farmers keep the prices up on them so I never could justify buying one. Last summer I picked up a working condition MH # 11 for $50.00. Had been sitting in the barn for 20 years & the barn was getting ready to come down. Sad part is I haven't planted tobacco for the past 3 years, Great deal, just wish it had been there 13 years ago!!!

I hear that.

I play the "farmer fad" curve. Always buy what the other guys consider total junk. It's just plain cheaper that way. :>)

Man, I hate to think how many trips it would take me to clean pens with one that size.
