When Deere first came out with the new rectangle Standyne filters - we found out they'd plug real easy with ice. That's not a dirt problem - it an issue where water collects at the bottom, freezes solid, and the machine quits. The old round filters did not plug like that unless they had a LOT of water. The new filters only needed a little to freeze. We had a fleet of rental Deere crawlers, backhoes, etc. So - often in the winter - we DID remove filters, thaw them out, drain them, and re-install. It would of been ridiculous to change with new every time. But again - that's water - not dirt.

Good way to cause a ruckus!

In ANY diesel engine the fuel filters are the cheapest maintenance item that you can replace! Before trying to be cheap on fuel system parts, check out the prices on injector and pump rebuilds...

Toss them in the trash can. They are a lot cheaper than an injection pump rebuild for a sticking metering valve. We are talking microns of filtration here. And that would be equivelent in size to a pimple on a gnat's a$$ or maybe a little smaller.

Makes almost as much sense as rinsing out oil filters and reusing them, get real dude there are other places to try to save money and this is not one of them. I gotta go

Are you refering to the rectangle fuel filters? If so why would not just buy new filters? Tx Jim

well i got the answer i was looking for, kinda like them surveys the have that are ridiculous too,of course nobody can clean out the jd filters, once they are slowing down your machine, its a guaranteed fix to shitcan the filters and get new ones cause the lower parts are already sucked inward and unable to be saved,i got everyones attention on that one,of course when i just spent 9600.00 dollars plus restoring a john deere 7020,thats the last thing i'm worried about buying, this was a cool survey without having to start a survey, great going guys, have a nice afternoon
