I've been searching for a good used twin basket hay rake. Deere 700 (or 705) and the Vermeer R-23 seem to be the best choices, but they seem very similar in design...did Vermeer make these for Deere (or vice versa)?

Any thoughts or opinions on either machine would be greatly appreciated.

As previously stated Vermeer builds JD twin rakes so paint is only difference. I owned a R23 for several years. The R23 always had reel pipe brgs needing replacement(granted newer rakes have larger brgs than the one I had),made tractor hyd oil really HOT and was very hard to change from transport to field position unless field was very smooth. I traded for a H&S high capacity wheel rake and would never want a hyd. driven rake again.JMHO,Tx Jim

I have a R-23 rake for sale, Vermeer made the 700 and 705 for Deere. You can get parts for your R-23 at your local Deere cheaper than most Vermeer dealers for some reason. Email me, if you are interested in talking to me about my rakes.
