Looking to buy a 3 pt backhoe attachment for a Ford 1520...thinking it is around 20 HP. I know Ford had one to go with it years ago but it was megabucks and Ford no longer sells their version of Japanese tractors. Does anyone have a small backhoe attachment that has worked well? Recommendations much appreciated.

we have a full size pippen hoe old 4 point will do everything you ask of it-- needs 400 or bigger IH or equiv; now to the point bought a jd 7' to use for smaller ditches etc. JUNK JUNK JUNK don't know who makes them for JD but tinny bend easy cyl; soft shafts bend like butter-- I'm still looking for parts for ours-- so I can sell it, can't afford the JD dealers prices--

I have an old Woods 750 that I mounted on my JD 790. Bought it used and love it. I've dug out several 2' diam. + trees growing in hard clay, septic tanks, ditches, etc with no problems. Previously used a JD brand hoe sized for the tractor using tractor hydraulics. Woods is much stronger as it has its own reservoir and pump driven off the pto. You can pick up the back of the tractor with it. For its size you can do a lot of work with it.

I have used Woods models 6500 and have really been impressed with them. A sub frame is better set up as the top link holder can be a weak link. They are far from a toy ! I dug out 2 decent size locust tree stumps last year with mine.

I borrowed a Ford 1300 TLB from a friend of mine to help out with septic install...A glorified wheelbarrow at best..Good thing I had a Ford NH 450-C backhoe to do the real work..Bradco , Woods make a nice small unit..Best off with a full frame backhoe so you don't break your 1520 in half...

third party image

Get a sub-frame mount like a Bradco (American Trencher). They take all the strain off of the tractor castings. Click the link and scroll to Image 58 for more info.

We have tried a couple of these with minimal luck. They are really jerky and unable to really do much digging. We finally gave up and bought a backhoe. There ok if you are not going to use it much or dig much with them.
