We are in the process of putting a auxillary pump on our 1466 to run our sprayer pump during planting. After the mess we discovered we put the filter on the pressure side.We learned a 300 pound max filter will not stand up to the 1800 pounds the pump puts out.The filter is now on the return line but you should have seen the oil spray.

We had a Case front end loader in the gravel pit, nice one bought at a NYS auction, used for loading dump trucks, private pit, and one day a main line broke with a full bucket up over the side of one of our trucks, came down on the side and caved it in, my neighbor who also worked there, did a nice job straightening out the dump body, what a mess though. Seen a lot of hoses burst on excavation equipment over the years, especially backhoes.

I remember the recall on D8K caterpillar dozers, specifically the hoses for the blade tilt cylinder, I did not realize it at the time, but when they leaked, burst or sprayed hot fluid out, apparently a few of them went up in smoke or something catastrophic happened, whatever it was it was a big deal, do remember a Cat serviceman coming to the site I was on to change out the lines, thought it was strange for to see a Caterpillar serviceman come looking for this older machine to repair lines that looked fine, we had our own mechanics. Knowing what the consequences were later on, glad he showed up. Must have been something along the lines of that fluid being real hot, when the line was compromised, it sprayed back toward the operators seat and was ignited like torch, been a long time, cant recallt the specifics, but it was no joke though.

I had a guy that worked for me in a repair shop. He was looking for a hydraulic leak on a hose,it had a covering over the hose.He moved the covering to see where the leak was and the owner of the truck hit the lever at the same time. The hydraulic oil pierced his finger and filled it with fluid. The doctors fooled with his hand for almost a year before they removed his finger. BE CAREFUL when checking for hydraulic leaks do not use your hanmds to feel for the leak

Yup, those are always fun... I always love it when a hose ruptures RIGHT behind the seat (or under it) and you get everything covered, including yourself... Best thing to do is grab the lever and push it down so as some of the oil goes back to where it belongs instead of on your shirt... and hat... and jeans... and boots... and your last clean pair of skivvies..... .

You mean your skivvies were clean until you got startled by that sudden "pop"...

Hi Don , you're an Oliver man. How about the hydraulic units on the fleetline through the three digit series. Ever have the filler tube instantly blow off , after plumbing in hydraulics for a loader , etc.? It happens so quick. EVERYTHING gets cover with oil. What a mess! Trying to get air out , as well as top off reservor. Everything is going well. Everything is looking good. The project is almost done. Tools put away. Mess cleaned up , etc..And then , out of nowhere , comes this spontaneous blast of oil. When it happened to me the first time , it wasn't funny. After that first time , anyone who tells me the same identical story , I can't help to just stand there and laugh. After that , I'd advise anyone doing such a project , to throw a good heavy towel over the hydraulic filler tube.

Never had a tractor older than the 1600 so I don't have any of those fond experiences... although on our Massey 165 w/ a loader we've had the main supply hose from the front mounted pump rub against the frame until it ruptured. Wasn't too bad until ya pulled a lever and closed off the easy return path for the oil... When I replaced the hose I put a piece of heater hose over the top of the rub point and zip-tied it on.

Just last week I was replacing hyd hoses on a loader. I started up the tractor, raised and lowered the loader a few times, tilted the bucket up and down a few times, all was well. I was about to back out the door when I got the bright idea to grease the loader. Got down to the last two zerks, which were on the rod ends of the bucket cylinders, had to raise the loader and tilt the bucket to get on them. I shut off the tractor and was climbing off to grease those two last fittings when I heard a loud pop followed by a blast of oil. Parts guy didn't get one of the ends pushed onto one of the new bucket cylinder hoses far enough before crimping. My workbench right in front of the tractor got the worst of it, but there was oil 15 feet up the shop wall and everywhere within a 20 foot radius. Took over an hour to clean up, but I'm just glad nobody was walking past in front of the tractor.

That's reminds me of the time I was working on stationary Compactor for trash removal.
All they said was the door won't open. So I turned on the main switch hit the up button an promptly spray down some poor guy in his good cloths who walking past. Hey they didn't tell the hose was broken.

Just got to mention that bout everybody has at one time or another had a hyd hose rupture on a loader. Sure is fun to get sprayed while the bucket goes all the way down.
