I have a 1973 4030 with a 265 loader I absolutely love. The engine has an ether addiction (Hard starting). I can buy a 1975 model that has a good starting engine for $4500 and swap the whole fronted end as the steering bolster on mine is also worn out. The tractor I am looking at has no known history, it is pretty rough. Or should I just rebuild mine and forget the unknown in the used tractor I am looking at?

If you need the steering bolster too,and there are a lot of other parts on the other tractor that are usable,I'd give serious concideration to buying it if $4500 isn't a lot of money to you. If you need some piddling little thing off of it on a Sunday when nothing is open, that's worth something.

I would rebuild the engine you have. You know at least some of its history.
