Any Saturn owners out there? A relative thinks he needs a fuel pump for his 2003 Saturn L200. Is this possible with only 40,000 miles? It is a $350+ part and the tank has to be removed to replace it. Anyone had similar Saturn trouble? Enough to keep me from ever buying one.

Saturn is made by GM. GM has fuel pump problems, especially if you run the tank dry. The pump gets cooled by the fuel, and when not setting in the fuel, it gets hot, and weakened. Rode in the same truck 2 days in a row. First day he ran out of fuel. Second day, but 10 am, the pump quit. Greg

There"s a good Saturn forum at saturnfans.com; run the archives there to see if any fuel pump complaints or questions come up, or post a query there for advice if the other suggestions don"t help. Good luck.

Change the fuel filter. This could reduce fuel flow to engine. Can also cause early pump failure

The best price I could find on one was from Murrey's auto parts. At that time (couple of years ago) they were the only ones that could get one other than the dealer. If I remember right it was around $170 then. Came in next day. Make sure your getting 12 volts to the pump befor you rule it bad.
