A lot has been said about the problems with early 5000 series JDs and excessive electronics on other newer makes. Anybody have opinions or experience on how the newer MF tractors from Brazil are performing?

The girlfriend's dad bought a new 471 about a year and a half ago. Has a Bush Hog loader on it. He has had no problems with it. It reminds me of the 283 and makes about the same power. It's a fine tractor for a cattle/hay operation.

The 400 series(Brazil made) were replaced by the 500 series which are made in Turkey. I would not be looking at a 400 series unless it was less than half priced. The jury is still out on Turkey, only time will tell. Go to the MF board and search for the 400 series and read some horror stories.

The only things that are made in Brazil worth a flip are: Taurus firearms, Antarctica beer, and alot of the women. I drive a Brazilian made 2004 Ford Ecosport company car here in Mexico and itīs been a disaster since it was new! Within the first year, the tranaxle bearings, steering column, most of front suspension were worn out. Since then, the gear shift has broken, a/c compressor shot, etc, etc. Oh, and I lived in Brazil 8 years, so have seen their "quality" first hand.

Howdy,

Well, in a word they are pretty cheap. I haven"t owned or operated one myself but we sell them here at the store. They seem to be mechanically sound but are just cheaply built. We had one 471, I believe, with a cab and the roof had to be replaced at least once; possibly twice due to being cracked by exposure to sun. We also had one that had fuel lines go bad just from sitting on the lot. So, I don"t really have a high opinion of their newer machines. Of course, just about all your imported "American" tractors have the same high quality construction, be they caseih, deere, or massey. The only high quality tractor that I"ve run into here is the kubota tractors we sell. I"m not a fan of japanese tractors but we sell fewer replacement parts for them than any of our other lines we sell. That speaks volumes to me. God bless.

Hi Gang;
MF really struggled here for several years with the 3000 & 6000 range of tractors, cost them a lot of sales.
Now the latest models are selling well, regaining market share, and its not to do with price. They have been replacing other brands, so something must be right.
Some of the sub 100Hp models are built by Landini of Italy.
Cheers David

Thanks for comments. Re Kubotas, I have an old Kubota M4000 that was badly used when I got it but it is still ticking along. Locally, a lot of dealers are taking on Kubota in addition to their old line or replacing the old lines.

Went with a friend to look at tractors.He wants an overgrown lawn mower.I looked at JD, Kubota and Marhindra tractors, would not take one as a gift.A lot of levers sticking out of plastic fenders, you would think you could get steel fenders for 18 grand.I have used a 1920 Model Ford and found it a good basic tractor but this new stuff is pure crap.I kissed my old Ford 600 when I got home.It will still be working when Ive gone under....
