several weeks i saw neighbors horses running and acting strange and his dog barking and acting nuts. i went outside and thought i heard nieghbor le roy yelling for help. i jumped in my truck and went to see what was going on. le roy had got 2 fingers of right hand caught between ball and hicth of his horse trailer well i got le roy free and his son took le roy to hospital where he got 32 stitches in 2 fingers. this morning le roy came over with a pocket knife and a note from his wife saying i'm their hero for helping le roy. what the heck i just did what i thought i should as a neighbor.

Well, I agree that hero might be a little strong, but you definitely sound like the type of person we all want for a neighbor, and that we should all try to be.

If'n he thinks you are a hero, then you are! Accept his thanks gracefully, Which you did, and go on. Keep caring for your fellow man. Too many people see something ary, and don't respond these days.

Hero or not, being able to help, and in this case getting that poor guy's hand out of there, helping aid and comforting someone who is injured is a lot more than being a good neighbor, some people may not have even investigated, others have an instinct at the first sign of trouble, those critters have a way of telling you things, I've seen that so many times here, one of the best things about em. Nothing wrong with a pat on the back there, and most humble people go on about their business, thinking nothing of it, no matter what it was that they did to help.

As a kid, thanfully enough there were not any incidents here that caused injury, even when they some how got the 2010 up onto the 2nd floor of the barn, coming down the hill behind it, with a manure spreader on the back, ( I've got ask dad about that one again, bizarre one to say the least. Biggest problem was horses getting loose. I was by a pen once and the stallion charged right through the wooden gate, and there were others in there, instant stampede, so many other times had to round em up before they got to the road, had one get hit by a cadillac once, totalled it. Not sure why, but we had big problems with em gettting out, sounds kind of irresponsible thinking about it now, not sure why it happened so much. Saw one run full speed into and get tangled in a woven wire fence, going arse over tea kettle, and was a little too young to deal with this, don't recall where the tribal elders or parental units were, but always called a good friend of dads at a time like that, who was like 20 miles away, and he'd be there in 20 minutes everytime, the last time was the one where the horse was tangled up in that fence, we did get him out of it after getting him settled down, with no injuries, was a good friend and not so close neighbor, can't imagine what could have happened if this guy had not shown up in those days. He has trouble walking now, don't get to see him much, but another one who saved the day and thought nothing of it. Sometimes people like this have no idea how much they are appreciated, it's good to let em know, and do the same in return.

Hero or not isn't the issue; you were there did the right thing at the right time. That's what being a good person is all about. Congratulations.

It's not important if you think of yourself as a hero or not, I would be proud to have you as a neighbor.

Been there done that saves two people from dying in my life and I'm proud of that but Hero well if other like to call me that OK but I alway just assumed i was doing what i could to help them.
Saved a kid from being cut in half on the ship by pulling him out of bad spot in a bad storm.
And saved another guy who was choking used the Hienrick maneuver on him back in 75 or 76 not sure but I had just learned about it a week or two before. He was lucky that I watch the news now an then.
Yep! i feel like you do happy to help but just doing what comes natural.
Walt

Well I'm sure he was hooking up to load a tractor or livestock, so shouldn't be an ot message. :)

Fellow around here years ago got his hand caught in a fold-out toolbar. Did no lasting damage, but stiff hand for a few days. Trapped right by the road. He said it was close to an hour before anyone stopped, everyone else thought he was just waving & waved back.....

Reminds me of a story about EJ Potter. He used to pull a couple of Allison V12 powered tractors. He got obsessed with jet engines. He had a theory that you could start one by just getting it traveling fast enough so the air flow was spinning it. He mounted one on the back of a souped up grain truck and went in to Ithica and got somebody to drive for him. He dropped a hose in the gas tank of the truck to feed the jet, figured 70 miles per hour would be the right speed so he told the driver to blow the horn when he hit 70. Well, that's when everything happened at once. The engine went up in flames,EJ was standing up in the corner of the box trying to get away from the fire. There were two guys in a field, one on a tractor and one on the ground talking to him. They heard the horn, looked up and saw the flames and started waving for all they were worth. The driver didn't know about the fire,so he just waved back and kept going.
