I just rebuilt a case 300 and spent a ton of money on the engine what is the best oil out there. Lubracation has been a problem with the 148 engine I think I took care of some of the defects when the engine was apart, oil has got to be better now with all the technology right?

Actually, consider breaking it in with non-detergent oil. Supposedly non-detergent oil improves burnishing of the cylinder walls because it doesn't carry away the metal particles.

Kyle,

Personally, I shy away from any gas engine oils labelled "Energy Conserving", due to the reduction of the anti-wear additive ZDDP in these oils.

Diesel engine oils with an API classification CF, CF-2 or CF-4 has anti-wear packages that offer more protection than "Energy Conserving" rated oils, especially for engines equipped with slipper-type valve tappets.

Any name brand diesel oil - Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac, Valvoline All Fleet, Texaco Ursa, etc. will be CF rated.

We use Shell Rotella SAE 30 in our older gas tractors, Rotella 15-40 in the diesels and Rotella 10-30 in our gas pickups and cars.

I hope this is helpful.

Scott

Royal purple is the best oil on the market. It is a synthetic, so it is very expensive. But itis well worth the money spent.

My tractors get Mobil Delvac1 5w-40. Cars, etc. get Mobil 1 in the manufacturer recommended viscosity.

Kyle,
In my Case 300 which I had about 5 years, I've
only used Mobil One. I have been using Mobil One
in all my vehicles since 1991. I have 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with over 200,000 miles with the original motor and automatic transmition. Oil changes every 5000 miles tranny @ 35000. As far as the 300, which is a 57 6 volt, I have started outside at 17 below in 30mph wind it turned over twice and fired right up. Chuck

My self I use only valvoline oils. The reason is any engine I have opened up after useing that brand have been clean, show very little wear and when I pulled the pistons out I didn't need a ridge reamer to do so. Been useing it for 30 plus years now and the only engine I have seen go bad was one that was run to low on oil and droven to far that way

I know there are a lot of good oils out there, and everyone probably has a favorite. all I can tell you is my own experience. I overhauled my 1940 JD H in 1974. At the time it was the only tractor I had and I used it hard, after all it"s only 13HP. 25 years later I decided to restore it to original, still ran fine & never used a drop of oil in those 25 years. I tore the engine down just because I thought I should after that long. The cylinders had less than .001" of taper, there was no measurable wear on the crankshaft. The pistons showed no wear, and so did the rod bearings. The only wear I could find on any moving part was the end gap on the oil rings was about .045". I short this engine was the same as it was when I put it together 25 years earlier. It always had Quaker State 10W-40 oil in it and was changed regularly. Ther eare other good oils I know but the results speak for them selves. I have a 1991 Ford F150 with 193,000 mile4s on it, again Quaker State 10W30 always and still does not burn any oil. The only engine I ever had premature problems with had been using Standard Oil, it was my wifes car & I can"t remember what particular oil was used. Anyway I use Quaker State in everything I own. Just my opinion,
Paul
