I had the same problem last November. I pulled it apart and found that the release arm had bent. Ford had a problem in 1999 and 2000 models, and then beefed it up. The part will cost about $30.
In 1999 Ford got rid of the dual mass fly wheel, so a new clutch won't be as expensive. I decided to replace mine while I had it apart. $400 from NAPA.

That transmission is heavy, too much for a floor jack to balance, try to rent a transmission jack. If you do find problems with the clutch it self, that diesel has a dual mass flywheel. Should you need to take it down, be advised it weighs in the neighborhood of 100 lbs, and when the last bolt comes out, it comes DOWN, no alignment pins. Does sound like your problem is the hydraulic slave cylinder though. luck.

Have a 93 f-350 w/170,000 on it and the slave cylinder went out at 155,000. Had stopped at a signal light. Pressed the pedal down, put it 1st and started across the street, but when I pressed the pedal to change gears, the pedal stayed on the floor. Had to tow it in. The slave cylinder had blown out. After $550,and 4hours at the dealer, I was back on the road. Don't ask me what I think about dealer service.....

I've got a 350 gasser here w/ 5 spd. at work and the clutch went south last week. Sounds just like this fella. What did a new slave cylinder cost? Did they have to drop the trans to get at the slave? It'd be great to know what kinda financial trouble I'll be getting into. Thank you very much.

sounds like thats what this one did. guess i'll drop the trans and see whats up. seems like its gonna be the slave as the pedal has pressure now. that trans looks heavy!!!!

Tell ya what, you come up here and help me take apart my truck, and then when you're ready, I'll come down and help you with yours. Sounds like a plan ; )

A 2000 F-350? Doesn't that have a 6 speed?

Anyhow, I have a 2001 (6 speed), it is a hydraulic activated clutch, my main cylinder went when the truck had about 30 or 40k on it. That may be your problem.

I would recommend going to the "Powerstroke Only" bulletin board at:

www.freeautoadvice.com Lots of knowledgeable guys there (in addition to those that just want to turn their 7.3s into hot rods).
