I have a 1955 Ford 801 Power Master tractor. I recently purchased a NAA10301 12 Volt wiring harness from Yesterday's Tractors. It did not come with a wiring diagram. Any help out there on what wires go where? I'm replacing the existing converted harness, but its so messed up I'm afraid to use it as a guide. Thanks for any help.

First off, the 801 Powermaster was not offered until 1958. If you have a 1955, then it's likely an 800 series.

Second, unless this is a diesel tractor, it was originally a 6 volt system from the factory. There being about a dozen different ways to convert to 12V (a few of them even work), and not knowing which method your dpo chose to use, it's hard to give you a "one size fits all" wiring diagram.

So, let's start by trying to determine what you really have.

1. Is it gas or diesel?
2. Does it have a grille like an NAA or does it have a grille with big square grids?
3. Does the starter solenoid have 3 or 4 terminals?
4. Have you found the serial number? Stand on the left side of the tractor. See the starter? Now let your eyes move a little toward the rear of the tractor. Just past the starter you should see a flat horizontal surface....kind of below the air cleaner. The model number and serial number should be stamped there. You may need to do some grime and/or paint removal to see them.

The link below shows some wiring diagrams that may or may not work. It's a place to start anyway. They were done by John in LA who hangs out on the Ford board at this site. He would be more qualified to help you with the details of your wiring problems.

Jim: Thanks for your response. The model is 860 and the serial is 50661 as far as I can tell. Both numbers are very hard to read. The grill has a series of vertical bars and above the grill is a chrome emblem that reads 800. But the indentation along the top side of the body has a decal that reads 801 Powermaster. Could have been placed there recently and is incorrect, but its there and it seems to fit perfectly in the recessed area. The engine is gas. The tractor also has a very stout front end loader that looks to be factory original. Thanks again for you help.

You do indeed have a 1955 800 series. The 860 is one of the models offered in the 800 series. It should have a 5 speed transmission and a dual clutch which gives you live pto. I have a 1955 850 which is basically the same tractor only with a single clutch and non-live pto :(

My serial number is 58704 so your tractor was probably built about a month before mine.

The decal is a recent addition and is misleading. It fits so nicely because the 801 series used the same hood as the 800 series. The only difference in the hoods was the 800 has an embossed Ford script on the sides toward the front and the 801 hood does not.

The 801 series was a mild upgrade over the 800 series. Both series had the same 172 cubic inch engine, but the 801 had a few more horsepower I believe. Also, the 801 offered more features and options such as power steering, a diesel engine option, Select-o-Speed transmission option, etc. Visually they look different due to the jazzier paint scheme and the square grid grille on the 801.

Good luck with the electrical problems. Post your questions on the Ford board on this site to get more expert help than I can provide.
