Did any auto manufacturer make an all fuel vehicle? Has anybody made a flat head diesel engine? Anybody ever heard of a diesel snowmobile, chainsaw or pushmower? Was searching the net for odditys and did not find much

The military at one time had trucks etc that would run on almost any thing that you could pout into the fuel tanks on them.

OLD I worked for the Army for some years those multifuels were supposed to run on almost anything but they couldn't get them to run on anything but diesel without major problems. I guess in a pinch one could get out of a bad spot an back to safety.

What can I say I had heard about them but thats as far as it goes. So I guess you could say I was going by what I had been told but you know how that goes some times

I figured there was a good point and a bad point to them or they would have been more of them built and shoot maybe even sold as every day cars for the public

Arctic Cat had snowmobiles with Wankel rotary engines (see Mazda RX-series cars) for a couple years. I always wanted to get my hands on one, but they don't show up all that often.

I had two of those with a wankel, it burned gas and
purple power lube. Parts very expensive you don't want one.

Nobody mentioned the IH UD series gas/diesel engines , mostly used on cranes..From my observations they were real weak on gas but when switched over to diesel , performed pretty well..These were overhead valve...

Model T and Model A Fords had a driver adjustable mixture and were intended to run on ethanol, maybe methanol, as well as gasoline.

It would be very hard to get a high enough compression ratio for diesel ignition with a flat head engine without an unreasonably long stroke or very high intake air pressure from a roots blower.

BCS (MOSA) made two wheel walk behind tractors with single cylinder diesel engines until a few years ago. They could power a rear tined tiller attachment or, by rotating the handlebars around 180 degrees, they could power front attachments such as rotary mowers, snowblowers, brooms, brush cutters, etc. The new ones today are powered with either Itek or Honda engines. They have a dealer directory on their website. You might be able to find a used one with a diesel somewhere.
