Allan, shut down the farming and warm up the plow. I am sending you another snow storm. This one going NE, up through Why at you.

The darned thing is going north of us up in SD. All we're supposed to get is the silly wind. :>)

Thanks for the effort tho; we sure need the moisture. Couldn't make a clod if ya tried.

Allan

I kind of worry about the cowmen this time of year. Guess they been there befor, but they need a "heads up" abot those little babies in March snow storms. All ways amazed me how a newborn could hole up behind a sage brush and then run like a jack rabbit the next day. They are worth too much money these days to risk.

Yep, I've got pictures from one year we had a BAD March storm (82 maybe?) that we lost 2 cows and 16 calves...that hurts the old wallet...

Ken

Looks like we're going to see that storm here starting sometime tomorrow. Its supposed to be rain here, not snow. Should just about finish off what snow is left on the ground here if it does. Strong south winds here for the last 12 hours already.

Talked to my neighbor the day before yesterday.

Had an old cow that had hid her newborn calf out in a stubble field.

Neighbor said he had to go get his four wheeler to search for it, because he was afraid of not seeing the thing and then running over it if he were in the pickup.

When the old cow says, "Stay put", that calf won't move. :>)

Had a young bird dog once that could smell a rabit a 100 feet off. Would point grass hoppers all day long. Had her out looking for a newborn. I finly spotted the calf, led her right by it several times. As close as 3 feet once down wind. No could smell, she finly saw it. I reached the conclusion that babys do not smell.

Your dog just didn't know what he was supposed to look for. Many times we were looking for calves before a snow storm, never would have found them except for our old shepard dog, especially at night.

My sister lost a lamb last night, first lost one of the year, and the temp is dropping tonight to well below freezing. Hope the others that are due to pop can hold off a few more days till it warms up.
