I'm curious how many of you have successfully re-used a headgasket? Particularly in cases where you've taken an engine apart for "non-head gasket reasons", and new ones are hard to come by.

Lubbock Gaskets out of TX will custom make any shape head gasket with just a tracing or old gasket for pattern and the price is right too. Just google to find a phone number.

Silver paint on both sides is an old favourite. Sometimes called aluminium paint. Just make sure it is clean.
God Bless,
Rex

Rex, I am glad to see someone else uses aluminum paint. I learned this from My FFA advisor and have used it for over 30 years and have never had a head gasket not to seal. Spray both sides allow to dry until the little hair on the back of your hand won't stick to it, then put it on. I have used head gaskets more than once.

My dad and I did it once just to see if the A Farmall would run. Put coppercoat on each side of the gasket, tractor is still running. That was 10 years ago.

I have reused them on a case 930 diesel, allis wd, ford truck straight 6 cylinder, Ferguson tea20 and 8n ford. I was told by a stock car builder to spray hp Hylomar on the gasket. This stuff is made in Europe.

I still get a chuckle out of a line from an old M Moline operators/repair manual, said " If the head gasket shows no damage, clean, coat both sides with grease and reuse". Personal experience with high compression 440 Chrysler race engines, is that I had no problem reusing the same head gasket 4-5 times as lomg as it was returned to the same side of the original block and cylinder head.
