Looking at a JD 1360 - will 60 hp be enough to pull it around the rolling hills that I have?

Also, how do I tell if it is a sound machine?

No. Well, yes, mabey. I've got a 1460 which is the same mower with rollers instead of flails. I run it on a NH TS90 which is supposed to make 77 hp. Also on a 7710 which is turning 100+.
On the hills, in a heavy first cut, the TS90 is lugging. The 7710 is lugging for that matter, but holding speed. The TS is geared down. It's also enough mower to throw those tractors around on the corners when you're moving.... anf they're both ballasted to over 11500#
So.... 60 may run it slowly if things are just right, but it's really going to punish the tractor. If it's a small frame tractor without the weight of the TS or 10 Fords, it's going to get thrown around..... It wouldn't be me running it with 60.

Beyond that, check that the bar is in good condition. Grab the discs and see if they're tight. Side play isn't good. Look for rock damage, etc. Those are the big things.

About 10 hp per foot of width on disk mowers. I've run a JD 1360 in heavy hay with a 100hp tractor and you didn't even know it was back there. I've run a 10ft Kuhn in the same hay same Tractor and had to shift down to keep from over heating. You may be able to get away with 60hp on a 1350. Deere Disk Moco's seem to be easier on hp then other brands.

60 HP would have a tough time in the hills. I have a 12FT New Holland 1411 discbine and it works my 90 HP 5230 Maxxum very hard in the hills. Most of the time I use my 150 HP 1066, it just plays with it and burns less fuel than the Maxxum.

I don't think you'll have quite enough power to run one especially on hills. We just got a Kuhn FC4000G which is a 13' center pivot disk conditioner and it calls for at least 115hp although Hesston only calls for a minimum of 85 hp on the same size mower. It seems like in general hay conditioner's are in the condition they appear to be in, in other words very few I've seen look good cosmeticly unless they have had the same care mechanicly. If you could I would see if you could get an oil sample out of the cutter bar and send it off somewhere to be tested to see if there are metal shavings in it. The other thing I would be concerned about would be how good the conditioner rolls are since them and the cutterbar will be the most expensive to repair. Otherwise just basic things like belts or chains should be easy to check but I think you'll be able to tell alot about the machine when you first see it. I spent over a year shopping for a disc conditioner and we ended up buying this one year old demo Kuhn machine because it didn't cost all that much more than the used ones equipped like we wanted.

I don't think 60 HP will do it,especially in heavy hay,and on hills. It may pull it but not at enough speed to feed it properly, and if you run too slow it will shred the hay.
