I was wondering if anybody has ever seen a 420 U Navy Tractor. I know they made 420 W tractors. Thanks for any info. Dwight

Howdy,

An old JD dealer here in S. Ohio has one of those navy 420s and I believe that it is a 420U. This one was used at the end of a short runway in the desert to pull jets back out of the sand. The place was a simulated aircraft carrier. It"s a neat tractor. God bless.

The Navy used these tractrs to shuffle aircraft, equipment and cargo on aircraft carriers. There are pictures of 420's & 430's with Navy data plates and oversize generators. In true Navy fashion it was cheaper and faster to chuck the old equipment overboard instead of off loading it and moving it through the surplus system.

plenty of us have driven a 420 U tractor. U means Utility. Where does the navy sail into this at?
