Looking at an Allis Chalmers 190XT Series III diesel. Has 5100 hours on it. I got to use itthis weekend for a while discing. Runs real good and pulls like nothing else. I was wondering what some of your opinions are about these tractors are, good and bad before I make an offer on it. Thanks for your help, Chris

I didn't care for the PTO set up on them. You'd think that a tractor that new would have independent PTO,but you had to throw the high/low hand clutch lever into nuetral to have live pto. One warning that the neighbor kid found out the hard way, don't tow them any distance with the engine off. He borrowed his dads with a loader on it to load some gravel from the pit. When he was done,he put the bucket in the back of the dump truck, lifted the front wheels off the ground and tried to tow it home that way. The transmission EXPLODED,I mean right out through the casting! Took it to the local mechanic,Fuzzy,he wanted him to fix it quick.Yea,that was good for a laugh.

Neighbor farmed with one on 80 acres. Small tillage equip. so never really worked it to hard but he had very good luck with it. I think I heard there trans. were the week point. If your not going to be using it for primary tillage that should not be a problem.
