Tonight a phone solitiser called.. Indian or Pakistani sounding man..I immediately started to speaking Finnish...I kept it going for about a minute [ as long as I could ]..I'm a little rusty since my parents passed away..He hung up on me...The nerve..If you don't have a secondary language to go to , I would think " pig Latin " will work just fine...

Since I'm a business, I can't be on the don't call list. But I counter there question "can they speak to..." with "WHY?" Many times I have to ask "WHY?" three times as they try to hear it as "Who?" By that time their speil is broken and I can usually quit right after that. Anything to take control and break them away from their script wrecks their end.

Then I ask to be removed from their calling list, which may work occasionally.

Re: OT Phone Solitiser - IT WORKS in reply to Roy Suomi, 03-12-2007 17:39:08
A couple of weeks ago, my lady got a phone call solicitation. She said no thanks and hung up. A minute later it rang again with the same line. She got mad and banged the phone on the desk a few times and yelled get off the line! When it rang a third time, I answered with a cheery "Hello". They asked, "Are you Mr. Janzen?" I said, "Hold on, I'll get him" and layed down the phone. A couple of minutes later I picked up. The tenacious phone rep was still on the line. I said, "Hold on, he'll be right here" and layed the phone back down. When I went back a few minutes later the line was dead. The worst thing you can do is waste their time. No more calls from them. It's really satisfying to win one.

This works. I done it lots of times. Another tecqunique I've used is; Pretend you are very aged ,hard of hearing, and coufused. When they have finished their speil, I'd, in a shaky befuddled voice repeat it back to them only I'd have it all "McFrigulated UP". Again they try to get their message across, I give them a doddering "Hey.. I cant hear you." After totally frustrating them they hang up and I LMAO.

Bill hands down, that was the best of the best. I did bump my head as I bent over laughing. How in the heck can a guy pull that off so well, let alone think that up! I wish I could do that myself. Of all the information posted to heck with the old tractors now I'm int you tube.

Thank You!

I have been on the do not call list from the beginning. If I get any calls of that type, I make sure that I know who they represent, tell them they have violated the do not call, and that I will report them. And I do: donotcall.gov has a neat, easy way of reporting on line. Recently several of the worst offenders were handed some substantial fines for calling donotcall subscribers.

I was the talk of the town once when a very persistant guy kept calling about contractor supplies. I have to admit he was good and always some how or another got the $100.00 out of me. I did get a good deal, just did not like the idea that I hadn't the sence to hang up.

So I ordered about $800.00 worth of stuff twice and did not accept the COD. Man everyone thought I was the man of the day, and it did go to my head. They must pay the freight both ways so It was major cool. I wore my crown of glory for a couple of months and ordered again, this time they sent it open account, and you had to get a permission number to return anything. Now I just hang up.

The kids and I were goofing off one evening, in good spirits, and a guy called hawking long distance service. In my best Norwegian accent, I told him how Uncle Torvald vass alvays svearing about da phon, etc., etc., and I knew he would be interested in changing. He vass down to the pumphouse, vorking on da pump (then followed with a short discourse on vat vas the matter vith the blamed ting), then told Mr. Solicitor that I would run down to the pumphouse and get him. I laid the phone down, and listened- he was saying oh, that's ok, I'll call another time, etc., etc, then finally hung up.

Since I registered on the do not call list I dont get them, But years ago I would get the same guy about every 2 or 3 months, he would start out like an old friend, "hows the weather" "how are you doing" then "This is California Contractors" we have a good deal on tools today, when I would tell him no he would start swearing at me, if I hung up on him he called right back and swore at me. He called a friend and would do the same thing, one day he called my friend at 6:00am he ordered $150 or flat bast ard files COD. When they came he refused them and sent them back. When the swearing salesman called him he just said I decided I didnt want the bast ards, he said he never called again.

I answered the phone one time and it was a telephone solicitor, told them to hold on a minute and handed the phone to my wife...she didn't think it was as humorous as I did. Next time I get the urge to hand her the phone with a solicitor trying to sell me something I will tell to talk to them in Thai. That should also be interesting.

John s b when you get all that junk mail and they have a postage paid enevelope in it stuff it full and send it back they pay postage boath ways. If you take old harbor freight flyers and cut them in three pcs. they just fit in the envelope and add a lot of weight.

I have caller ID displayed on most of my phones so it's really not much of a problem. Caller ID is the only thing I've ever bought over the phone. I think junk mail is just as annoying and potentially more dangerous with all the credit card and loan offers sent out. It would probably put half the loggers out of work, but they need a "do not mail list" also.

I did not do this, but thought of it real hard. We have a telamarketing building in the next town. Sadly a distant friend, and very nice, kind young girl is the manager. I threatend to put a add in the papers, and put posters up for anyone who is anoyed by the telamarketers to give of their time and call as often as possible these numbers. Her home phone, and cell phone numbers. Our small comunity is hard stressed for jobs, and the young kids have no opertunities so I sure can't blame her. It is what I call one small step better than selling drugs. It is very unfortunate that I can not use my cleverness to acomplish more produtive things in my life.

I don"t answer my home phone any more since we are never there. I still get a few "unavailablle" on caller ID. Most of those are robo-callers looking for fax machines so they can send special travel offers and junk stock tips.

I always wanted to start into the obscene phone caller routine...."arrrrr r yooooo nekkid?"

One time I asked the guy calling if he had a credit card ? He said he did, I then asked him for the credit card number, he wanted to know why ?

I told him that my time was worth $15.00 an hour, and if he wanted to give me his sale's pith I would then listen to him for as long as he wanted to talk, as long as I was billing his credit card @ $15.00 per hour.

Hello .... ? Hellooooo o ?

That is about what I do at car lots. Stop just to look at truck and the buzzards come running. All you have to do when they start talking is pull your keys out of your pocket and say you had one just like this but the bank took it back last week and you wanted to see if this one was yours. They will let you shop all day in pease.

I signed up for MN and Fed do not call list years ago- found out politicians and police groups were exempted in the law, also certain others that do not sell via telephone. But I simply ask for their home phone number and then ask if they want to continue the call, since they are violating Federal law, and I will report them. Lotsa hangup calls.

A long time ago the wife handed me the phone and said it's that lady wanting us to buy childrens books. I have been known to perhaps show off in front of my buddies, and being they were here and all, weeeee ll I just figured I had to. I stated that she was a little to late that the twins had both been killed in a semi / child accident. She gave her sorry to hear line on me and asked how. I told here the semi hit and drug both of them down the road and skinned them beyond recognition, body parts only thing left, made all the local papers, and TV news. That was me that was on the TV did she see me? Gee I was on every chanel! Her remarks were oh my goodness, that is so sad. I then stated that it wasn't all that bad as It got the wife and me on the TV. Also they were kinda slow learners, and we realy did not want them in the first place. But she should watch chanel nine at 10 O clock as I was pretty sure she could see me that evening on the late news. She did hang up and never called again. I tell ya, the kids could not understand why we had to escort them everywhere they went for a week or two, so it kind of backfired on my smart mouth. I almost could hear her blink her eyes, and drop her jaw.

I also signed up for the do not call registry, and has done away with 95%. Politicians still call, and most are very important personal recordings for just me I assume. I must be pretty high on the pole for the president himself to call me and tell me how great a job he is doing.

We do not get many solicitations calls any more. Used to be, when they started out with the question: "Are you the home owner at ____?" I would respond very mournfully that, "I had been but now am in foreclosure". Because I sounded like I was about to break down in tears, they would end the call real fast. My sad response grabbed one guy so hard I could tell he could barely contain his laughter. Those people do not get many good laughs while soliciting.
