I have a 2000 kia sephia that has 165,000 miles and runs like a champ other than one belt squeals like a stuck pig. At about 110,000 I decided to change the original belt which never gave me any trouble at all but it was getting old. I tried 3 sets of belts the last set coming from the kia dealership itself but cant cure the problem. It is the belt that drives the AC and power steering. Even with the AC off it still squeals a little and with the AC on it is quite embarrassing. They are tight enough, the first set actually broke from over tightening. Maybe the rubber on the oringinal set was softer or something. I have been advised against best dressings. I am thinking that maybe the PS or AC pump is hard to turn, but they both work fine. I am sorry to post this on a tractor forum, but you gotta go where the knowledge is.

i had a serp belt squeeling and found that the grooved pulleys were the culprit . try wirebrushing those grooves rubber dust and dirt will build up. finish clean up with alcohol .hope this helps.

Randy, Rub the belt with a bar of soap on the edges. Good Luck, jackie

I've have the same problem with my 93' Deville with the 4.9L engine I changed the belt (was squealing) at 50,000 miles, and within 5,000 miles it was doing it again. Now I just squirt the belt with a shot or 2 of STP or other belt dressing when it starts to squeal and that solves it for another 5 or 10,000 miles. The car has 126,000 miles on it now. Strange thing is my 92' Eldorado has the identical engine and same assesories as the Deville, hence the same belt and routing and I never have a problem with it. This engine has 201,000 miles on it.

could be the pulley faces are polished too much causing the belts to slip. try some 320 grit sandpaper on the surfaces to knock the shine down, may give it enough bite to stop the slipping.

Had the same problem on a Mercedes 190D car that I once had, tried new belts, in the end I found it was the piviot bearing on the tensioning jockey pulley arm that had worn slightly making the jockey pulley run slightly out of true on the back of the belt causing the squeal. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Richard, there is no tensioning pulley though, The PS pump adjusts to take up the slack I just wanted to mention.
