Fuel delivery on Oliver 880

I posted a message earlier about a fuel delivery problem on an Oliver 880.
The engine starts and will run for about ten seconds before stalling. I will wait about ten seconds and try to start it again and it will again start for about ten seconds and stall. If I keep pulling the choke in and out, I can keep it running for longer than ten seconds. Certainly not good though.
The ignition system is good. If I remove the fuel line at the carb, fuel flows freely for as long as I keep the valve above the sediment bulb open so the carb IS getting fuel.
I've rebuilt the carb, but is the carb on these tractors that touchy or could the cause be a intake gasket but does that explain why I can keep it running when playing with the choke in and out.
Looking for any and all suggestions.
Thanks

the float could have developed a pin hole. when the carb is disassembed everything appears normal ,try shaking that float up to your ear can you hear any liquid noise? had a tractor drive me crazy before discovering pin hole after a replacment everything ok

Well, it seems that all symptoms point to the carb so I'm going to try cleaning it one more time even though I've cleaned it twice already. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
Thanks for all the advice, this forum is extremely helpful and I thank everyone who has responded so far.
Thanks again

Fuel flows freely from the bottom of the float bowl for at least a minute.I have the main fuel jet turned out 2 turns and the idle jet turned out 1 1/4 turns. But I've tried many other combinations as well with no luck.

It sounds like you might have carb. problems is the float level set properly fuel might get to the carb but there could be a blockage in the
needle valve. just my guess Bob

If you have good flow of fuel to the carb then it seems to reason that the carb itself is the problem. Does fuel drain from the float bowl?

Sounds like you have a metering orifice restricted within the carb or one of the metering screws not set right.

Try setting the main jet/mixture screw out at two turns.

OK, so it is the carb, not ignition, not feed to carb. Not fuel cap either - takes a lot longer to get enough vacuum in the tank to hold up the fuel flow, so would run for some time before it then gives your symptoms. As Rexalot says - Does fuel drain from the float bowl? - I add "at full flow for at least a minute".
When I say full flow, I mean much, much, more than a dribble! That is the most likely fault, nearly every time on my Olivers, but mine tend to run a bit more than 10seconds.

Carb may well have a very fine filter at inlet elbow. They are prone to blocking - work well but also may get varnished up as well.

Float may be sticking in up position by catching on a home-made gasket.
