I need some recomendations on accounting programs for computers. Right now I'm using Quicken 98. It is enough for my needs as far as keeping amount spent in proper categories and keeping track of tax deductible categories for schedule F etc. It is cumbersome to get reports into the format I would like. Sometimes I think it would be almost as easy to just keep everything on a spreadsheet. I don't need all the features of something like Quickbooks or Peachtree. I can upgrade to Quicken 07 or are there other programs that are better? If any of you have experience with quicken or other accounting prgrams or maybe sveral different programs and can give me advice thanks!

Phil

Or maybe I should just hire a CPA.

I use Farm Biz from Specialized Data Systems . Designed for farm and ranch accounting, it was easy to learn and use. Set it up personalized for your operation. Simple to enter data and print reports. Go to ---- farmbiz.com --- for info. Download free 6 month trial usage , if you like it, then buy it for $249.00 and the data you have already entered in the trial is picked up and you go on for the rest of the year.

It's a whole lot easier to use MS Money compared to Quicken, and your reporting choices are a lot better.

Try Farm-Fact Acounting software. Its fairly reasonable in price and is for farm accounting. Also has a free 30 day trial to use. Very straight forward program.

I bought Quicken 2006. Really like it so far. I can sent up catagories, and add them to SCH. F and E and things like that. Took me about a month since I'm no PC expert. But now it's real nice to have. Also works with Turbo Tax reall well.

your CPA most likely uses quickbooks pro or Peachtree Complete. I'm not an accountant (nor do I play one on TV) but I am the IT person for one of our area's largest accounting firms.

I'm just running Quicken 2002 for my farm accounting. We had Red Wing AgChek for several years. That thing sucked. You had to be a programmer to run it. So many screens to go through just to make one entry, unbelievable. This Quicken is so simple a "caveman could do it".

Which version of Quicken 2002 do you use; Basic, Delux, Premier, or Home & Business? I use the Quicken 98 H&B right now. Thanks.

I am hoping that Quicken has improved some features that I didn't like about the 98 version. Thanks for your answer

I use Quickbooks Pro. It works really well for what I need. It is really easy to run reports. There is one called Quickbooks simple start, but I believe you will have to upgrade to Pro to get into the reports and stuff. I have two friends who are CPA`s, one swears by peachtree the other by quickbooks.
I don`t know if you do any online investing or banking, but if you stay with Quicken or Quickbooks, I think most are compatible.
