Was loading a semi yesterday with this auger.

After about 100 bushels in the truck it stopped dead. Pulled the fuel line and it was getting fuel. Pulled the plug and no spark.

This motor was bought new in November.

Finished loading the truck with another auger.

The shop I bought it from said bring it in,it is warrantied. I said its full of corn. He said pull the motor and just bring it.

So I unbolt the motor.Pull the wires.
Got to the shop and he said right no spark.

He put a new plug in and it fired right up.

Why didn't I try that before I unbolted the motor? @#$$%%^

Never had one go bad like that before.

Always try a new plug first.Carbon on the insulator nose can kill the spark.

What brand was the failed plug? Most often, when I have the same experience you had, it is a Champion plug.

It was a NK or SK what ever that brand is.

But it was not a champion.

Had a chainsaw that the ignition system died on it. The local shop put a new one in and I took it home to use it. Used it and it died after a few minutes. No spark. I took it back, and they said the plug had fouled. I felt dumb and took it home. Used it for 5 minutes and the motor locked solid. They had leaned it out a little too far...

Can not offer any proof, but the physicist in me wonders if a failure of this nature, the case being failure after sitting for a period and with the fix being, change the plug, electrolysis might play a part. There are several different materials junctioned in the spark plug circuit where it might occur… my shot in the dark.

A few years back I was doing a lawn mower repair service call. This engine when trying to start would kick back and even backfire out the carb. Long story shortened it turned out to be the spark plug !!! Somehow that plug was affecting the timing ?

I bet you will check next time ( I find myself getting these lessons all the time pulling carbs)
Plain truth new plugs just suck, I try to never use champions and try to get a motorcraft or ngk.

I'm with you, plugs suck these days. Bosch makes a pretty good small engine plug if you can find them. DW

I haven't seen one just quit in the midst of running because of the plug, but have fixed many by changing the plug that wouldn't start after a period of sitting.

I am thinking that something in that what passes for gas these days causes the soot on the plug to short it out.

Lots of people say 'Bad plug' and switch manufacturers, but I am convinced most times its in the gas.
