Yesterday I saw 6 loads of tractors heading east on I-40 in northern Arizona ---- assume the tractors are from the Yuma auction over the weekend. Unfortunately the drivers failed to offload at my place. Have been looking for auction results - no luck yet.

I didn't hear any prices, either, but I saw a second semi roll through yesterday with a steamer and some other stuff...

Considering we are about 12-13 hours from where they had the sale, he must have had a whale of a collection...

Howard --

It *was* a whale of a collection; there was a 2-page ad in the Jan./Feb. edition of "Belt Pulley" magazine which showed a handful of the nearly 3,000 items that were destined to go under the hammer.

The auction bill claimed "nearly 1,000 tractors" and "thousands of small collectibles," all selling -- at no reserve -- to the highest bidder, regardless of price. Also referenced was "Perhaps the largest Massey-Harris collection," tractor engines, large model train collection, model tractor collection, hit & miss engines, 17 antique cars (including a 1917 Oldsmobile touring V-8), antique toys, antique furniture and large pedal cars.

Among the tractors specifically listed were:

Avery 18-36
1907 Hart-Parr 30-60
1914 Little Bull 5-12 (one of six)
Case 12-26
1929 Lauson 25-45 Model 6T1

And steam engines:

Aultman-Taylor 30-60 steamer
Avery 75 HP
Baker 25-50
Case 75 HP

Lots of neat toys to drool over.

Of note, buyer's premium was only 5%; you don't see that very often.

All in all, it would have been a great auction to go to with Bill Gate's checkbook. Unfortunately, the only checkbook I have is my own, and the U.S. Gov't and the Infernal Revenue Service have a claim on a large chunk of what's in it, so I'll just have to be content with the rusty ol' iron I already have.

Now that feller who hit the Mega-millions jackpot and just cashed his first check for $584,000 -- that's another story...
