6.0's had tons of problems, injectors, turbos etc. Navistar already halted production of the 6.4 I wouldnt sure wouldnt buy one of those either. The cummins motor rocks, but that asian trans who knows,. Gm imo is the best package out there, the duramax is pretty proven and the allison is a great trans. the 7.3 was a great motor, but I know alot of ford owners are running away from ford diesels right now.

According to my Ford dealer mechanic, Ford got really brilliant with the 6.4. You now get to remove the cab and doghouse (which is one peice) to work on the engine. I think when trade in time comes, Dodge is looking better all the time. This is from a diehard Ford man.

That isn"t a new development, I wouldn"t call either the 7.3 or 6.0 a physically small engine, and I think it tight for both.

The current 6.0"s are supposed to be a good engine, they have now got the bugs worked out after rushing them to production.

The duramax would be decent engine if it wasn"t for the ugly wrapper they stick it in, I really don"t care for the Chevys bodystyling, they improved this year but not nearly enough.

Had a 6.0 wouldnt outpull my 7.3. then i couldnt keep injectors or turbo in it. traded in with 12777 miles on it. Got dodge dang thing was no better couldnt keep injectors in it. after the 4th set traded off got duramax couldnt be happier 36000 miles later the only thing besides oil changes that cost me was hitting a pheasant.700bucks. Still got the old 7.3 ford should have kept that one around. theres no replacement for displacement.

The 6.0 had some problems in 2003 and 2004 until they basically redesigned it. The 2005 and up have been comparable to the 7.3 in reliability but with a lot more power. The 6.0 has given Ford almost 50% of the deisel market, one of the few bright spots in their ever increasing dismal sales position.

Our company has a couple 2005s and 2006s that have been OK to this point. I have one brother that bought a 2006 that already has 120K+ HARD PULLING miles on it. His only complaint is that the tires are so God*&^% expensive and none seem to be made for real world towing and hauling. He had one set that lasted less then 20K, he figured they were meant for the dentist that owned a SD to pull his jet skis, not a farmer pulling gooseneck full of big square bales.

For all the recent bashing made by some owners and by Ford on the engine when Navistar pulled the plug on the 6.4 Ford went to court to REQUIRE the shipments continue (hardly sounds like a POS they didn't want). I agree with a post made below, until a bunch of those engines are on the road with 100K+ on them no one can offer an informed opinion.

As a FORMER owner of two 6.0 fords that I finially got rid of thru the lemon law. I found a low milage 2002 7.3 to go with my old 1999 7.3. I will not have anothe PS when these bite the dust. 7.3 great engine, no problems. 6.0 total garbage.

who cares? In reality, most of the people buying them can't really afford them.

Been in the tractor pull'in business for a couple of years. When you start add'in chargers you better know whats going on. 2 chargers "stacked" will only work if the first one is a little smaller than the 2nd one. When you have this situation if the first charger fails it will 99% of the time destroy the second one sending muliple pieces into the engine. I personally have not seen the ford setup but have heard that under load or a heavy right foot the MPG numbers are in the single digits. 9 mpg or less!

I'm not sure about what you said about that turbo. I thought there was a turbo on both sides, so 4 cylinders a turbo not stacked on top of each other. I maybe wrong. Also these turbos are electrically controlled I believe so there is less turbo lag making them more efficient than the common waste gate turbo. Also this motor uses common rail injection which is a good bit more efficient and better for the environment since less fuel is wasted out the exhaust because it is injected at extremely high PSI. The powerstroke webpage has all the stats but it may be slightly biased. lol
