Does it still have all it's horsepower. Sometimes carbon will build up in the intake manifold which restricts the flow causing extra vacuum consequently frosting. We had that problem on tractors brought to our shop, mainly when the farmer used FS gasoline. Next time you have the carb off, stick your finger up the intake and feel around a bit. Bye the way, your air cleaner isn't choked up, is it?

I have seenthat on severaltractors. Years ago I saw at least one M farmall with a timn sleeve around the muggler and a tube running from iot to the air intaketube. Preheated the air and prevented the carburetor icing. Same principle used by small airplanes with their carburetor heat.

Some of the old engines had a tube that drew warm air from across the exhaust manifold to preheat it before it went down the carburetor, which solved the problem. A little thermostat closed the tube, diverting the intake to cool air, once the engine warmed up. If all else fails, I suppose you could rig up something like that, maybe an aluminum flex tube that you hang near the exhaust header for cold weather operation.

What I do is let the tractor partially warm up and shut the engine off for about 1 to 2 minutes. You can watch the frost melt off. Restart the tractor and usually everything is then warm enough to keep the frost from reforming.

Its normal part of how a carb works. All tractors that are gas have the same problem at times. It will go away after the engine has run long enough to warm up the manifold and then it will stop iceing. Just part of life and how things work.

The external frost you see is NORMAL and hurts nothing.

As for problems with freezeup inside the carb try some "drygas" and getting the engine up to proper operating temperature covering the radiator with cardboard if necessary.
