Today I was talking with my 86 old father. He was talking about farming in Kansas in the 30's and said his brother in law bought a new McCormic/Deering with a cab and A/C around 38 or 39. Said the A/C didn't work well, but did have air. Is he correct? I would not have thought cabs were available that long ago much less A/C.

Anyone know when cabs first came on the scene. What about A/C?

It could have been a swamp cooler type AC. You would soak the air filters in water and the blow the fan across them to get the cool air. You then needed to rinse out and re-wet the filters every few hours.

Minneapolis Moline made The UDLX in 1938 with a Factory cab it did not go over because people could still remember sitting behind a horse.

The first American built car with real air conditioning to my knowledge was the 1941 Cadillac limousine. Also offered on the Packard. He could have put some fans in the cab, If you look thru issues of Mechanix Illustrated from those years, you'll see lots of things that inventive farmers added.

cabs came around whenever some inventive farmer made one on their own tractor. Could've been 80 years ago. As for the a/c, are you serious? air conditioning was CRUDE in the late 1950's!!!!! !!!!! !

Yep,

In fact, there was one for sale on ebay about 6 months ago. Cab looked like an old International truck cab was just set on the tractor, but it was well fit with entry from the rear.

Can't speak for the A/C, but they did have the cabs even back then.

The Model "L" Case came out in 1929, and you could order a cab as an option.
