Hey guys, I'm sure ya'll have seen a variety of the "new" electrical connectors when working on your newer machines or your cars and trucks. If you've ever had to take one of them apart you know how big of a pain that can be because most take their own special tool. Working on a variety of equipment like I do I had gotten the tools and connectors for the AMP, Packard, and Metri-Pac connectors used on some vehicles but wasn't able to find the correct tooling for the Deutsch connectors that are commonly used on offroad equipment. The other week I did several web searches and found a few places that said they carried the Deutsch tooling but non had what I needed. I finally found one place that gave me the number to Ladd Industries which, I discovered, is the sole distrubitor of the connectors in the US. I told the lady what connector I had and that I needed the tool to take it apart. She told me they were very inexpensive so she'd simply send me a sample and save paperwork. Thing is it was Friday and I needed the tool for Monday morning. She asked if I had a UPS account and when I told her I didn't she said no problem, we'll foot the shipping too. Sure enough I got not just one but a pack of five of the tools first thing on Monday. NOW THAT'S TRUE CUSTOMER SERVICE..and though they have a German sounding name the parts are American made too. Ok, now that I've applauded their customer service, here's a link to their site. They have an online catalog as well as a print version so you can find anything you might need from tooling to the connector terminals and bodies. They also have a section on their site devoted to telling you the tools needed as well as how to take the various connectors apart if you ever need it. Before I forget the tooling for all the other connectors can be found at----- Waytekwire.com---- Hope this helps save some of ya'll a few headachs in future wiring projects.

Now this is getting a little too far out of context. I see and have worked with these connectors or ones simular to them for the last 21 years. BUT why are they putting them on automotive applications? They are all over the four different air frames that I've worked. Looks like I'll have to buy me a Daniels Kit in order to do wire repair on a car, truck or tractor. They should have kept this simple because some of those connectors and pins can be a real pain in the behind. Hopefully there won't be any coax or triax connectors.

Thanks good thing to know about. Oh yeah I'm sure the Cat place would have gave you something? lol.... Main thing that's wrong with them and others today is all that specialty BS made someplace else.

those connectors are new to me also. Fan wouldn't quit running in my 2000 Freightliner the other day. Wanted to unsnap the connector till I could fix it.Nothing on my belt "toolkit" worked & I finally had to cut it. Why can't they just learn to keep it simple. That doesn't seem too much to ask.

NC Wayne, so what's your comission, on this, these are available through most suppliers and Caterpillar. Nothing new here Cat's been using these for over 10 years. Their removal tools are nothing more than oring tools that most guys break the first time they use them. Ask them about the crimping pliers and you'd better be sitting down when you ask. chris

The other new and unimproved on autos are the clamps on the fuel filters.

Takes a special tool to force in the coupling to release the filter from the line.
