I just got into using google earth, awsome. its sure beats looking at an atlas. I just down loaded the free version and notice there is alot of hazed out area's, you can't get good detail. Can you get better detail with the pay versions? what is the difference between the diffrent pay versions? It sure would be nice if I could use it to map out fields with a GPS. any one use this ??

Hi;
Been watching Google earth for a year, addictive viewing. In England only the main towns are sharp images, countryside as yet is fuzzy. Ive heard that paying a fee will give you clearer images.
I guess the Governments have very clear images of everywhere !!!
Looked up homes of friends in England and in USA.
Certainly more interesting than whats on TV most nights !!!
Cheers David

Its a function of what imagery is available. Our place is clear as a bell- can identify which car is which- but everything south of our fenceline is so fuzzy you can't even make out houses.

GoogleEarth uses imagery from a number of sources. Some are satellite (high res, and low res), while others are aerial. Which areas are which depends more on what imagery Google can obtain from their suppliers than what Google wants to obtain from their suppliers. Most of the US urban areas have a resolution of 0.1m which is roughly 6", other small towns and closely outlying areas have a resolution of 0.6m, or 2', and the really "fuzzy" ones are most likely at 10m or 15m resolution (30 - 45 feet). The reasons are purely economical, as the companies supplying the imagery make more money from the urban areas than the rural areas. The reason you see different seasons is most likely because the imagery is from different sources, or even different years.

I have been using Google Earth for a while now. I have the free verson, and recently some areas by me that were very fuzzy are now nice and clear. I think they are slowly updating the images. Also some of the areas by me that are clear are summer images and some are late spring, no leaves on trees. It seams that there are only certin times the sattalite gets to scan certin areas, so some places may be slow to update.
