Got concerns about ultra low sulfur fuel deteriorating your fuel systems due to wear? Do you dislike the EPA for creating such stringent controls resulting in cost to you for replacement parts?
Take a look at who is really behind this push who coincidently is the major contractor for the new hydroprocessing refinery retrofits used to make this new fuel aka ULSD. Check it out Link Look at the big letters on the left side opposite to Exxon Mobil and you do the math, its your tax dollars hard at work.

The sulphur reduction is an E.P.A. driven thing, good and bad, sulphuric acid can cause problems in an engine, forget how it happens, and the emissions are supposed to be cleaner. The sulphur removal process, apparently lowers the lubricity of the fuel, so the sulphur obviously is just something that has not been refined out as I understand it, problem is your injector pump may not like the lower lubricity qualities of the fuels with the sulphur reduced. Some people add ATF to the fuel, and there seems to be other additives to combat this, not the end of the world, had followed this on another forum, was worried about my old Cat's fuel system, kind of sucks for older equipment, someone who knows diesel fuel systems would be better suited to discuss this, can't imagine all the older diesels becoming obsolete over night because of this, be a lot of angry people to deal with.

DO NOT ADD ATF!!! This is an old wives tale. ATF is full of a lot of stuff like friction modifiersand all kinds of junk that newer diesel fuel systems do not like. If you gonna go to the trouble, put in fuel treatment. You wouldn't put diesel treatment in your automatic transmission would you?

So what is it that the newer fuel systems dont like? Funny thing, my 01 7.3 gets a pint to 40 gallons and has for close to 60000 miles without any ill effects. In fact if I dont add it, it lets me know she aint feeling good by cackling a bit louder than normal ,and NO I dont have any problems with it.

I'm certainly not one to fool with mixing things into fuel, people have mentioned it, so let me clarfiy here to redeem myslelf, by no means should anyone interpret my post as advice to do so, best to follow the MFR's. instructions. I'm running an old caterpillar and would be hesitant to add anything to the fuel, unless specifically made to do so, what others do is their business.

I agree 100%, don't add anything to your fuel unless you absolutely know what you are using, what it does and complies with a MFR's instructions !
