During a recent search in our National Archives (New Zealand) I came across a reference to a purchase in 1948 of 8 Aveling Barford Calfdozers. All I know is that they were very small tracked bulldozers used by our railways for lineside work and maintenance in tunnels. Can anyone provide any more information or suggest sources of information on Calfdozers.

Just yesterday ,my friend and I rescued a Calfdozer from a scrap yard in West Auckland NZ. So far it has not yet been delivered so have not had the chance to examine it properly. We suspect it is one of 25 Calfdozers purchased by NZ Railways between 1947 and 1957. The machine we rescued is unusual in that it has an aircooled, two-cylinder, side-valve engine of possibly British manufacture as the carburetter looks like a side-inlet, updraft Zenith. apart from that we will have no other information available until we start stripping it down.

Hi.

I'm a 22-year old guy from Sweden who also this summer got hold of a Calfdozer. It had been standing for about 40 years but me and my father got the engine running but still need some work on the "gearboxes". I'm also very interested in manuals and servicebooks if someone has such. Of course I'm prepared to pay for them.

Regards, Pelle

hello

I have a calf dozer serial #1765. I am interested in contacting other owners who may have information on the history or wish to trade parts.

I am especially interested in obtaining manuals as well.

I have used my machine to move earth on building sites and clearing around fence lines. Currently I exhibit the machine at tractor shows.

PS has anyone got an exhaust pipe and muffler as I need one bad?

Thanks and regards
Bob Breen

Dear Bob,
I do not know where you are but I also have a Caldozer CD3. I will have to look up the serial number. I am restoring it at present I have a parts manual and an owners manual. My dad bought it as scrap metal when I was 14, I got it going and used it for about 3 years, (until got a car !) I am now 58 years old and I have not used it since, I have kept it and this year I am starting it again, It will be a big day. It is all there but needs lots of small jobs and new clutch linings etc.
Great to find you on the net. Let me know your address all though I suppose I could email the instruction book to you, I will try in a day or so.
Cheers, Rodway Wolfe.
