Something a little different. If you guys are talking about those great big cats with the rubber tank treads? I was up in NY state last Wed+Thursday to take snow pictures. The area near where the record lake snows were. Near Lowtown, NY there is a windmill farm with 185 units! As I was going up the road I came across what I thought was a really big tractor. When I got up to it I saw it was one of these tracked units. He was buzzin along at close to 30mph! Passed him and went up the road about 3/4 of a mile. Made a video tape of him going by. You should have seen the size of the snow plow he had on the front of that thing! The company that owns the wind mills uses the track unit to plow the access roads to thier mills. Looked like the same blade used on the "Snow Fighter" state Hi-way trucks. Some REALLY big plow trucks up there with THREE plows on them. A huge front swivel blade and two wing plows with a six wheel drive truck. Great to watch! Jeffcat

The one roblem with them, and the JD track tractors, I have heard is the tracks slip if you get in mud or snow. The drive wheel slips inside the track. Also, they cause ridges when turning in shoft ground. The Quad-trac Is much better in both cases.

Cat Challengers are the best thingt, since sliced bread. Out here the farmers ans ranchers use a lot of them, and use them hard. The steep hill sides are a little hard on the inside of the tracks, but now there are after market kits that help that, problem. The man was right, Cat owns Perkins now. They are a real good engine, easy to work on and the parts won't send you to the poor house either.
