Stright pipes on any engines don't cause engine problem, but they can and will cause your hearing problems over time. As long as the stright pipe is long enough to keep cool/cold air from hitting the valve then they work just fine . Also doing that will not add HP or take HP away either. Some say it adds HP but if it does its so little that it probably will not matter any how

Actually, it does add HP when mufflers are eliminated. It also allows the engine to run cooler and increases fuel economy. Now these numbers may not be spectacular increases, but they are there! The downfall is as you mentioned, a much louder tractor and hearing loss if the correct precaustions are not taken.

Well ya if your can say 1/2-1 HP on say a 50 HP engine is an increase. But thats not enough more power to matter in 99% of the things you do and in that 1% it probably wouldn't matter either
