Been sleet /raining here in Marion since last night . Thunder showers , lightening , knocked out power few places . Ice is starting to get heavy on some trees now , starting to see branches snap . I tried to open overhead door at my shop , couldn't lift it , too much ice built up . They are talking 7-14 inches of snow by morning !!! And to think ,,,,I left North Dakota for this ! lol

We are starting the snowfall now in north central Iowa NW of mason city. We have 1/4"+ of ice on everything and the snow is coming down now like it really means business. But by the national radar, looks like we are getting by on the easy side so I'm not gonna complain!

Lots of snow coming down now, pager just said HWY dept pulling all units off the road at dusk.
Snow is the big deal now, I have enough snow removal equipment to take care of half the town so It's no big deal, just a pain in the butt.
It's kind of funny as the county cop office keeps setting off our pagers every half hr to tell us the power could go out and what to expect. They are running our pager batteries down so it could become a problem. I think my brother and I are the only ones on the department that have generators. I recall twenty years ago my power company gave me a pretty hard time when I put in a generator pull top. They said that towns were first priority and they could always reroute from another area if necessary. They let me, but insisted I did not need it. I was fortunate enough to get a pull top for nothing, as a farmer went to 880. The wire should have been another two inches long, but they allowed it. It's kind of peace of mind at no cost. I kinda think we are past the power outage stage now anyway.

In NW Pocahontas Co. we've had light freezing rain off and on all day. Lights have flickered a little but no outages so far (knock on wood). On the weather map we are in a hole right now with little or no ppt. Snow should come soon with 7-12 inches predicted.

We have 3+ inches of ice/sleet/snow here in Bremer county with about 1/2 inch of actual pure ice on top of that. Just started snowing here about 3 pm. Power has been on and off all day. Just finally came back on after having been off for about 45 minutes. Lights have actually quit flickering so maybe it will stay on for good now. We are supposed to get 13 to 20 inches of snow by 6pm Sunday.

Hi Wilman , What part of Bremer are you in ? Here in Butler ( 5 miles east of Clarksville ) there's a system wide power failure the last I heard . Been without power since 11am , it's 4:30 pm now . I had to run into Waverly and get the genny from the shop and a couple of extension cords . I have two space heaters and the computer hooked to it . 51* in the house now , that's not to bad . I have trees and limbs coming down like toothpicks with about 2-3" of ice on them with 20-25 mph winds . On the way into Waverly ( 10 mph on the gravel , very slippery ) I saw power poles snapped off and lines down from ice and wind , not many but it doesn't take much . I had to drive over the lines . There wasn't any arcing happening so I hoped they were dead . They're talking 10-13" of snow on top of all this . Twenty years here in this house and in Iowa and I've only seen one like this ! Might get a little uncomfortable and expensive in the next couple days . Sure wish I hadn't got rid of the woodstove now Ha-Ha ! Just heard another tree limb fall , sounded like it landed on the shed . Take care ! ...Randy

Hi Randy,

I am in Sumner for the next month and than will be moving to an acreage just north of town. I am originally from this area. The last ice storm we had like this was I believe back in the winter of 86/87. I remember that way north of town where I lived we were with out power for about 6 hours or so but south of town was out of power for a week. Also that the city had power but the places just out side of the city limits to the west and south did not.

Stay warm.

Wil

Jeez Dave, Don't talk like that! I'm way too close to you to hear that! haha. Nasty winds and it just started flurrying/snowing here in central northern Illinois. Wow, seems like the winds keep picking up as I type this. Had a limb come down on a power line down the road this morning and I 'spect there's more of that going to happen.

They told us 1" of ice and up to 20" of snow. So far real thin ice and a few inches of snow. I'm not into cleaning house and getting cabin fever.

Wow. I don't think they are talking those numbers in Osceola. I'd hope not anyway. I like plowing some snow, not that much though. And not on top of that much ice.

It"s just still raining/misting down in Osceola. 45 miles straight south of Des Moines on I-35. So who knows what it will do.
