Hey at least your father in law didn't $crew you out of rental ground and fence cleanup like mine. Year before getting hitched he decides to rent his and his dads 212 acres to a neighbor (a real snake the neighbor is!) without warning. No renegotiation of contract or anything just a letter that we were out. And worse yet it was agreed upon (unfortunatley not written since WE USED to honor a handshake) that we would clean up the fence rows for free as long as we farmed it. There were a lot of fences and if you were to pay going rate it would cost just under $10,000 to have it done. Then after a year of the snake farming it FIL goes out and buys an excavator to finish some of the trees we either couldn't get or hadn't gotten to yet. What a guy! I got even though! Got her pregnant on the wedding night! True story.

Maybe where he's from, it's bad luck for the father in law to talk to the son in law before the wedding,or something like that.

Kind of rotten for him to ruin his daughters most important day in her life by being a crab. He must care more about his own little grudge than her feelings or what makes her happy. I say write him a letter explaining yourself and how you want to mend the relationship. If anything you got it off your chest what you wanted to say to him.

Why does he not like you? Are you a heavy drinker?, drug user, much older then his little girl? There has to be a reason.

He doesn't like you. He probably has a reason, at least in his own mind. But your best bet is to stay single. Marriage is not all it's cracked up to be. Save yourself now! Before it's too late! LOL! Trust me. You'll thank me later.

Clint, don't get your bloomers in a twist, you got to first realize, you are taking his baby, that to a father does not come easy to accept. He probably will eventually warm up to you, he has to see that you are going to treat his baby with all the respect and dignity that she deserves. My MIL, disliked me from the day I got into their family to the day she passed on, my FIL & I really got on real good. I have 2 daughters and a step-daughter, I don't like anyone their boyfriends or husband, I don't think they (boys)are good enough for them(daughters) But, it is their life and I will ahve to accept it. I do not know your situation, But some man takign your daughter away and gettin' hitched is not an easy thing fro a father to accept. Give him a couple of grandkids and I will bet that might put things in a little better light, if that don't help, man, I don't know where to go from there. I tolerate my SIL, just for my little grand daughter, that will melt even the hardest heart. I also have 2 grandsons, also and even though my DIL is not my favorite, I tolerate her because of grandsons, give it time.

Give it time. Once he figures out that you treat his daughter well and are a responsible provider, he will likely warm up. This is particularly true if she has been in a bad relationship in the past.

Or he may be planning to kill ya...

Cheers,

Aaron
