paint colors for 2n ford

I have a model 2n ford tractor that i recently bought would like to know what color it should be. It has a new paint job that is a very light gray and have been told that this is the proper color . However the 9n and 8n have a red and grey paint schems. thanks for your help charles cripps oerrtvukke arkansas

go to tractor suppy store they have it right on the shelf by the quart or the gal. and it will be the right color-- says it right on the can

9N came first (1939) then 2N (1942) followed by 8N (1948). See how that workss? So it is highly unlikely and not true that 9N and 8N would be the same. The first two are solid grey but not "battleship". That was the Fergusons. The 8N had the grey/red scheme.

Sorry, I don't have any info on the paint, but I thought I'd mention this. I JUST figured out why they're called 9, 2, and 8N. It's all so clear now! Thanks for this thread!

It's NOT quite as clear as you think!

For instance, in 1947, (2N time) production overlapped with 8N production, and there were (I think) some 30,000 8N's produced.

Even the experts argue about the exact numbers, I guess it has to do with model years not corresponding to "production years", much like cars, when the new models come out in late summer, or fall, or whatever.

Anyhow, the progression from 9N to 2N to 8N is accurate!

9N's and 2N's are supposed to be "battleship gray". The 8N's were "redbellies".
