with myself. Carrying 2 round bales, didn't see a small stump, blew out front tire. $150 for a 7.50 x 20 tire and tube. Hole about 1 inch and the tire had issues with thorns in it from previous owner. Tire man was not too confidant about fixing it, so I got a new one.

There was a previous discussion on here or Tool forum about air pressure and volume for impact tools. I have a portable air tank with a female air fitting which I put on to pump up the tank with. My 1/2 inch impact tool is an Ingersoll Rand 235. I took it, the air tank with about 110 pounds pressure, a 1/4 inch Harbor Freight coil up air hose and the other usual tools to the tractor and took off the wheel. No problems, but by the last lug nut the air wrench was slowing down. When I put the wheel back on after lightening my pocket, I took note of the air pressure. Start 110 psi, after wheel back on 75 psi. Lugs were tight enough to drive home on, haven't put the hand wrench on them yet.

BTW, someone else locally was having trouble with pressure for his 3/4 inch impact tool and he went to larger fittings than the 1/4 inch I use.

Battery impact wrenchs sound good. May try one when LOML asks what I want for Christmas.

Rick, someone else has the 3/4 impact, he has either changed to 3/8 or is in the process. I don't have a 3/4, though I may borrow his in a pinch.

Thanks for replies.

KEH,

The fittings I use I believe are commonly called "3/8" automotive fittings". They are roughly half again bigger than the 1/4" fittings.

My painter buddy recommended these for painting with my HVLP gun. Personally my paint skills still suck so I didn"t see any difference. But at high pressure they will move a lot more air. You could buy one set and see if your impact wrench runs better. I dont have a 3/4" yet so cant tell you.

They are still 1/4" npt so no adaptors are needed to switch over.

At one time I found them at Home Depot. But any local tool shop that has air tools carries them.

Rick

I have an air compressor on my service truck..I seldom use it after buying a Snap-On battery impact wrench..When I first bought it , I thought I'd try it out right out of the box.....I took the lug nuts off a RD690P Mack truck...Amazing power for a battery tool....Price is more than most want to spend , but for me it's irreplaceable...

those battery impacts are amazing. I help a dealer unload trailers off semi at delivery. we need to install tires as crane unloads. for years we used one electric impact then he got an 18 volt dewalt so we would not have to drag chord to other side of trailer. I did not have much faith in that battery installing maybe 100 to 120 lug nuts but every time it seems like it has as much power at end as when we start. very impressive.
