Which one is better and cheaper. I am wanting to put duals on my tractor. Got debate going on the bolt up type with a hub or the quick attach using the J bolts. Im not going to row crop so spacing dosent matter. I have driven tractors with bowth and could not tell much diference. Thanks in advance.

'Better' depends on several things. Mostly personal preferences/uses. Next comes cost/enonomy. Getting into 'Duals' in the older Fords and Fergies can get darn pricey as to inital investment with the special studs and spacers not being readily available and expensive.

sometimes you have no choice if your axles are not long enough.

I had band duals on a 1086 and the hubs weren't quite strong enough so I got hub duals and have used them ever since. I was told the IH hubs were a little weak before I bought them. Other brands are probably strong enough. Jim

Actually, spacing does matter, when you get into mud, and we always do. Closer together plugs with mud and loses traction. There is a third mounting choice- snap over center clamp, but the majority are either band with J-bolts, or hub duals. I have both- J-bolts are simpler to mount. Without livestock, no need to take off the hub duals on the big one, but they take a bit more time to align. As long as the spacing is the same, the performance will be the same. I made straddle duals for the planter tractor and the combine by adding width to the spacer bands- wheels run centered between the rows. No row compaction, planter tractor chops stalks, combine does not run over rows. J-bolts? Weld a ring on each one, run a chain between bolts----- --if one gets loose in the field it will stay with the tractor.

I have both and the hub stlye can be a real pain to put on and off a lot, the lining up them is the hardest part ,just my 2 cents worth jim

I always felt that maybe the hub mount style was a little better for the axles and bearings, but I don't know anyone that ever had any trouble with the other style, so I guess it comes down to personal preference and which stlye looks best to you.
