I am looking at a 1066 with no cab, no TA, 2 remotes. The tractor has been painted and every thing seems to be tight and engine sound good with no visiable oil or water leaks. What would you expect to pay for a tractor like this one?

a good 1066 dont need a ta unless your useing it for a pulling tractor and need a split gear, i would pay more for one without ta anyday, if it needs a little more power to run the eq in the gear you want , turn the tork screw a turn in the injection pump, we have pulled a 22 foot cultimulcher with a turned up 1066 over lotsa acres , never out of high 2nd no ta, my son ran three tanks of fuel thru it one day last spring but put it over several acres, buy it, or send me the info on it i only have 4 1066 tractors right now sure would like another or 2 goin to a sale tomorrow to watch a 686 a 1066 and a 5288 sale

Buy it and enjoy the fact that you will never have to fix the TA. Of course you will probably have to plow at 4 mph instead of 4.4 or 3.6. I aways find a TA to be gimmick to most of us. Expect to pay about $4500 for it and sell it for about $4500 when you are done with it. Good luck.

Here in NE Arkansas probably 5000-6000 without TA. TA does not seem to be that important here.

Last year at auction a 1066 with hole in block went for $4500.00. A couple farmers wanted it for the rear end.

Nothin',

Salvage price at best. Without a T/A, they are but a castrated tractor.

Just my opinion,

Allan

Allan,Not to disagree with your thinking at all,but back in that time period a lot of Dealers sold maybe two out of ten tractors with TAs in them because of cost.Stupid but true.

In our local are there were untold numbers of IH tractors of that vintage and I have never seen one that didnt have the ta. Must have been a regional thing. bill

I don't believe cost had that much to do with it. Most of the tractors that were sold without TA's were that way because of the abuse from hired help down in the south. And that is where most of the non TA tractor are. Jim

Jim,That is or was the reason that the IH dealers were giving back when the 4020-5020 were their Comp.,There were a lot of Field(demo)days held where maybe only one or two of the Farmalls had TAs.There were more sold after JD came out with the 30 seris or after 1975 but by that time the old IH dealers were dropping like flies because IH would not let them have Equip.(only the Factory Rep.Stores were getting Tools on a timely basis).

Hi Jim,

It is a torque multiplier in the IH tractors.

Jim in NM, TA is a torque amplifier on the transmission. IH had the "TA", Allis Chalmers had a "big stick", both served the same function.

With no history, no warranty, no guarentee on the hours I'd say $5000 to $7000 tops and as low as $3500. Paint means nothing or less then nothing. That size goes CHEAP, especially the 66 series.

Someone might see a well cared for farmer owned unit with a documented overhaul a few years back that will sell for $7500-$10,000 and think that their consignment auction equipment jockey special is worth the same but don't buy into it.
