Do all 3500 series trucks (or F-350) have dual wheels on the rear? If not, then what do you need on the rear if you want a single tire and yet have the same towing capacity as with duals?
Thanks

A interesting fact is that a 4 ft wide sheet of plywood wont fit inside the wheel wells in the box of a dual wheel pick up. Also the frame is narrower on a dually.

I looked into this when i was spec'ing one out. With single rear, the rear end itself is actually one size bigger (as in more heavy-duty) to get the same weight capacity as the dually. It actually costs more to buy a single than a dually, even with the two less rims and tires.

You can get all brands of 1 tons with single rear wheels. I think they use just regular light truck tires on them, as an F350 is classified a light duty truck.

Another advantage of a dually over a single rear wheel is stability. For instance, many people with heavy truck campers prefer a dually for the side to side stablity. Especially when the loads center of gravity rides high, like it does with a camper. I guess it makes a big difference in reducing side to side swaying during cornering and windy conditions.

I don't know about the other brands but Chev Regular 3500 & duelly 3500 have the same load ratings . The only difference is the safety of duells in case of a flat . And they Looook Coool.

We have two F-350 Fords where I work, same specs except one is a dually an one is a single rear wheel. They both came new with the same tires, just 4 on one truck an 6 on the other. The SINGLE rear wheel truck has a 500 pound HIGHER towing capacity and hauling capacity than the dually. You figure that one out..

They are both rated the same, but the extra wheels and fender flares make the dually heavier to start with.

Don't know about Ford or Dodge, but Chevy and GMC offers a 1-ton with single rears - not duals. They did this for years.

Don't know the tire size, but since my 3/4 ton uses 245-75R-16 load range "E" tires, I suspect that 1-tons used maybe the next size larger?
