ok ive been meaning to go get the key duplicated for the yard truck for some time now but i misplaced it and need to move the truck as soon as possible what would be the best way to bypass the keyed ignition so i could replace it if i find the key also could i pull the bolt and turn the tab in the back with a screwdriver easily? its an 80's Chevy 3500 dump thanks Chris

When in a real hurry on GM break the plastic collor on the collum then pull up on the locking assembly rod on the bottom and start. After that drive it like it is stolen.

Try every Buick-Chev-GMC key you can lay yout hands on. Not that unusual for a friend's key to work.

From losing only key to 80s chev in snow_Remove sterring wheel, remove tumbler assembly to free steering shaft, go to base of steering column and pull end of push/pull rod from columm to actual switch, insert end of screw driver and shove to start engine. If this works bolt steering wheel back on to drive. Take old slightly damaged tumbler to locksmith- get quoted "about $20.00 at least". Get different tumbler and key from salvage car for can of beer. Make duplicate of new key $2.00 Large key tabs can be found laying in snowbank, lone key hides. RN

Take the serial number along with proof of ownership to your local Chev dealer and they will cut a key.

Boy, Dunno.

When I worked for 'em, Mother GM would only kick out the key code if the vehicle was less than 10 years old.
