I was just reading a post a few days ago about diesels starting up in cold weather...my dad has a 03' ford powerstorke 6.0 and couldent find the block heater anywhere..even in the manual..just wondering if anyone knew where it was...also if its cold(20 and below) when you sart her up(after the glow pulg sign goes off to show that they are heated up) she sputeeres and missses the first couple of seconds..is this normal or are the glow plugs bad...its got stright pipe, cold air intake and a superchip..but when she warms up no truck can get in her way..shes pretty bad!!

should be using the blocker heater even if it will in reply to ole farmall, 02-13-2007 11:17:43
Even if the engine will start in freezing weather. You are doing your truck and your pocket book a favour by plugging in the block heater no matter if it's gas or diesel. The engine burns less fuel, suffers less wear and the windshield clears immediatley. And starting an engine and letting it idle to "warm up" is the dumbest thing since peeing into the wind.If electricity is avaliable to plug in.

I work for Ford, I know how you guys feel about them I'm the same way. I already told my boss that the next one is a Dodge. The block heaters come standard on all diesel 6.0(wait a min.let me finish here!) the cord does not come standard, when you order a truck and want the block heater you are just buying the cord. I ordered a truck in 05 and didn't order the heater since I never had to plug in the 99 dodge I had. Boy that is a diffenrt story with po strokes I have to plug my in when it hit 25 degrees here. I had to buy the cord to put on my 6.0 which hooks up above the starter on the pass side and the cord winds around the fram to the front bumper on the riight side. Makes a little differnts too

Hi,
Believe it or not !! This was one of the items FORD cut back on as standard equipment on there DIESEL ! trucks. It is now a 100.00 (part) option !! I was a little P.O. when i laid down 50,000.00 for a new 06 f-350 crew cab diesel Kingranch (with all the options). Then they said i would have to purch.the part !!!!! !! It will come back to bite them, wait till NISSAN / TOYOTA ETC.. START MAKING LARGER TRUCKS WITH DIESEL MOTORS. Im done with the Ford product and the way they treat there customers !!! Maybe the guy who decided to due away with heater cord got a raise,But i assure you,he dosen't give his kids COOKIES WITH OUT THE MILK !

Don't know about the early 6.0's but on my '06, I had to order the heater when I ordered the truck. No longer comes standard, it's now an option. My 7.3 came standard with the block heater.

Block heater on my 04 is on the passenger side bumper right next to the tow hook. Yes it is normal to have a little spit and sputter when its cold.
